For what single task do you use your knife the most?

Cutting tape, sharpening pencils, opening post packages and vacuum sealed plastic bags. Sometimes peeling fruit.

cutting or stripping wires, opening packages, breaking down boxes, cutting tie wraps, blister pack, or weedwacker twine. I agree with previous post though I mostly cut paper to test my edge :D

most use is slicing open bags of cement, cutting plastic straps and sharpening a pencil

all my work knives have cement on them and lead trails on the blade

I paint at a dealership, so I use one of knives to mask off cars instead of the crap razor blade I get through work

In my work --wildlife control--my edc folder is used every day for digging, poking, prying, cutting and all sorts of other things. It gets abused real bad which is why my current edc is an inexpensive Coast knife from Home Depot. I have some better knives in my truck and more in my backpack that can be utilized when needed but my work knife and my multitool both get a pretty good workout. That Coast knife actually keeps a fairly good edge and it holds up pretty good for a $10 knife

Lately, daily, I've been eating and cutting veggies with my "LimeCutter." After that (which is recently) I'd use my beater house knifes opening boxes and breaking them down while removing shipping labels.

Kitchen and house knives?

Cooking, cutting up food products and for around the house use.

Carry knife in and out of town including the woods/wilderness?

Personal security.

(Woods/wilderness - throw in a lever action rifle to the mix.)

I like your style lady.

I'm in manufacturing so for me it's boxes and plastic strapping, food, and slicing off 1/2 of the filters on cigarettes when my buddy gives me one. (I like them a bit stronger)

The highest edc knife usage is probably mail and package opening. My edc's however are used for multitude of tasks every day. Had a malfunctioning sprinkler yesterday and I was using the knife to clean out or pick out "stuff" that had accumulated since the last use.

Lol, I used to do that too back when I smoked.

In terms of EDC knife usage (as opposed to camping, hunting or hiking), I used to work in an industrial/laboratory environment. My EDC was out all the time opening packages, cutting shrink wrap, breaking down boxes, cutting straps, loaning it out so it could be used as a friggin pry bar...

But ever since I transitioned into an office environment, I miss my EDC. I hope it misses me. It's still there in my pocket but there are fewer opportunities to use it. Someone even opens my mail for me. On those rare occasions that I actually get to pull it out and use it, I picture the clouds opening, a beam of light from the heavens flashing off a brilliant cutting edge and a chorus of angels singing the praises of the Prepared Hand.

Ummm...excuse me for waxing poetic. I think I'm suffering from knife use withdrawal...

I'm a landscaper so pruning flowers and rose bushes. Slicing open large plastic containers bushes come on.

Same. Everything from cutting up lunch, cutting small tree limbs and pruning plants/bushes, weed-whip string, tire plugs, etc., etc., etc. There isn't really a particular job. It all started with a previous job, which required breaking down about 100 boxes per day it seemed.

Opening mail and packages. I'll add though that my SAK dices onions and celery really well for my tuna salad.

That's an interesting point. In the mornings, I take my BM 531 down to the garden to grab some chard/lettuce/cucumber/etc. for a smoothie. I essentially only use it for making breakfast, lol. It doesn't get oiled, just soap + water when I'm done. The Tasman SE is the one that goes to work with me most often (BM 556 not far behind) because it devours little tree limbs and everything else, and like the BM 531 it's also a featherweight. My BM 556 is my 'do anything' knife. It was my least favorite, so was delegated to the crappy jobs. She looks like hell these days, but has been exceedingly impressive. I'm not at all concerned with breaking it, if that paints a picture, ha. So I'm finding little 'niches' in my little (7, lol) knife 'collection.' I've also noticed that my two largest knives - 940 and PM2 don't really get carried in the warmer months. I'll grab the Delica for Dragonfly when out and about.

With that being said, because I've subconsciously dictated [somewhat] specific roles for each knife, it's difficult to buy more of them. If I can't assign it a 'job,' I can't really justify its purchase. Interesting.
