For you Kershaw fans some question for you.

Lots of great ideas guys. I sure would have never thought of the Skyline for example but for a price point that would work for more people it sure does make sense.

I can also attest that the Skyline has this weird aura with non-knife people, at least in my experience. The price is part of it for sure, but the clean lines and how it feels in hand really seems to impress folks.

The Zing is a good one too, especially with the blade length issue. That's a really good point, and could be a great selling issue for interested buyers.

There are already tons of different Blurs and Skylines. Why not take another, less commonly used design? Such as the Piston, Knockout, Swerve, Freefall, Storm 2, etc.

It's not a bad idea, but the nice thing about the popular kid's knives is that they also have a built-in collector base :p

I would suggest a skyline with gray g-10 handle, m390 blade steel with high flat grind instead of the standard hollow grind, and instead of a dlc or blackwash finish do a grinder satin on the grinds with stonewashed flats. Talk about a dream knife.

I think if you go with a different steel, then your target would be more of the knife people who knows something about steel quality and not so much the general public. Most of the guys I work with get Kershaws but have no clue about nor care about what kind of steel is used as long as it is easy to sharpen. The skyline looks to be a good choice for all practical reasons. I personally like the Turbulence. Either way y'all decide to go, I really don't think you'll have a problem moving the knives

You sir, have read my mind :D

Want to be sure to point out we would want this to be an American made knife. We really want to offer as much American made product. With our watches we do have to source our parts in China, Switzerland etc. but at least we can build, test, warranty repair etc those here.

To get a better idea what our brand is about you can check out our site. http://minutemanwatches.com/

A very good point. But the goal is to sell more which will raise more for veterans. So the temptation to select a model that is already very popular is great.

Skyline with M390 and maybe talk Kai into redesigning that pocket clip to a deep carry( think its same as 0350?). I hate that pocket clip! I'd be inclined I pick up my first skyline if it had a different clip. KVT bearings would be a nice touch as well.....ok I'm asking too much I know, but one can dream.

Correct me if I am wrong but the Skyline typically all have some sort of plastic for the handles correct? Which would make G10 quite tempting. Thing is what does that do to the final price and is that worth it in the end? I honestly don't have the answer for that one.

They come normally with G-10 scales.

Btw, you might wanna update your user group so the mods can tell what type of member you are

Good point on the steel. But my guess is most would know more about knives that we would sell to. Plus if you point out the upgraded blade steel. I think you can make a case for that with non knife people for say. For one thing it could appeal more to people who collect things in general. For another it would make that knife more unique even to non knife collectors.

Also if you point out that the blade will hold an edge longer this could be a point in its favor. To be honest I don't think many non knife people can even sharpen a knife no matter what steel it has. Thus a blade that would hold an edge longer may be more appealing. That's just a guess though.

I did not know you could do that. I actually thought when we picked up the dealer membership they would change that?

As that's something I would need to change what do you suggest I use for that?

You wanna go into your comtrol pannal and go to "Permission Goups" and then up top it will ask what member you are then you select what membership you bought

Skyline. Gray G10 handle. Blackwash M390 blade. Blackwash liner. Blackwash clip.
May be too costly, but dude that would look sick.

Skyline, M390, brick red G10, deep carry clip (a must). Coated blades are kind of polarizing, so I say no to that. Full flat ground would be a big plus.

While I think that would be awesome to see on the Skyline, it's risking the result of a slow-moving product relative to a standard model with a few minor changes to make it special but without sending the price to the skyline.

If the goal is to sell more and especially if the targeted sales are not just for knife users who own many knives and want high-end steels, it's going to be difficult not just in getting the knife created, but actually selling it and possibly making high-volume production models. In some cases, high-end steels can work against sales if people who aren't huge knife fans just want a knife to use and are satisfied with the base steel. In the case of the Sandvik steels, most users are already very satisfied and a major segment of buyers are probably going to opt for a standard Skyline from someone else in the base steel over a high-end Skyline with an exotic steel/handle with a price tag that is significantly higher. The core of the Skyline and Blur are inexpensive knives that perform really well, and many of the buyers of these knives consider value as a core trait factoring to buy/buy something else.

Spyderco's NLEOMF Delica is a good example of a limited model to raise money that retained the core features of the knife and did not alienate buyers not interested in more exotic materials that result in a more exotic price, IMO.

You know I was thinking KVT as well. =) I am guessing that would really break the bank on the budget. Like the idea of the deep carry clip as well.
