Here is my story. I welcome any comments.

The preview:
My friend gave a Leatherman Ti for my last birthday, I assumed it was new but it had no package, only leather pouch. Since I use only full size tools(I am an electrician), after carrying it a few times, it ended up in my truck’s glove compartment. The tool was super clean and had very smooth action and even surfaces, the only few light marks or scuffs were on side of a pliers, that could only be seen when you look very close under a certain angle. They were really insignificant and undetectable by a finger touch. They could have been there before I got it or added later from carrying it. So I decided to sell it and listed it on Ebay as used for $39.00 no reserve with Buy it Now for $69.00. Then that weird russian guy from Israel contacts me and asks if I can ship it to Israel. He offered to buy it right away, but I had to shave $10 off from the price at his request. Just per say before the sale I had to answer about a dozen emails from him.
Here is the link to the auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230328099656&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

Today I received an email from him. That followed by my responses.

Him, translated from Russian.

Good afternoon! I have received in the morning a parcel and have been simply stunned by a tool condition. After a dinner I have addressed in service centre Leatherman with the request of an estimation of a condition and restoration possibility. To me has answered that the tool was seriously enough used, about what tell deep scratches on pliers which even cannot be smoothed out and eliminated, so they deep. The knife demands editing, bits have been used repeatedly, the wide screw-driver is damaged. A cover for an appreciable length of time carried on a belt. An estimation of a condition 60-62 on a 100 scale! And it you name "mint condition"? For restoration from me took 54shekels ($12)!!! Besides, the set of bits which you also have not sent is necessarily applied on this model (by default)! Today I have received also another Charge TI which has bought for 79,90, including sending cost. Absolutely new, in original packing, with a set of bits. You have sold to me, practically for the same price which just right to present to the vagabond in the street. I am compelled to write a negative response for your deceit! Vitaly.

Me to him. (I admit, I was a little harsh.)
Are you serious? In the description I stated that it was carried, so the leather pouch wear is not a valid complain. The tool had no bit set when I received, so I was not even aware of it. You got the tool that was in the pictures, no bits were there and I have no idea why you think they had to come with it. As far as very tiny scratches that you refer to as "deep" and blade that "needs a touch up" to me is a nonsense. This is a sub $100 multitool and not a $500 custom knife that you expect the cosmetic finish to be flawless, Either way if you unhappy I can take it back and refund your money, I will even cover the shipping. And from now on please write in English, so our message exchange can be documented by Ebay staff. And I won't take lightly you tone and accusations calling me a lier.I have a 100% positive feedback and I won't let a snob and a scandalist to ruin it.

Him to me, translated from Russian.
I ask to forgive, but I will write in that language which is convenient to me! My indignation has been confirmed by representatives of service of company Leatherman and is not unfounded. Besides, if you had not time to notice, I also have 100 % positive reputation and the responses written in fine tone, different from your, affording personal insults. I named a situation a deceit as it was confirmed with experts, but did not try to name the opponent the LIAR and to use personal characteristics, as that: the snob or the rowdy as my education and position in a society contradicts the similar. I have not written a negative response, and before have addressed to you with explanations. My indignation and tone it is quite clear for the specified reasons and abundantly clear that as a result, the affected party I am instead of you. In reply to it you have tried to answer me in the inadmissible form, using personal forms and attempts to accuse of lie me, naming the fact confirmed with representatives of company Leatherman by nonsense. As a result, I will consult today on lawyers of my Club and if they advise to me to write the complaint in eBay and to give you a negative response so that and to be. Yours faithfully, Vitaly.

Me to him:
If you read the EBay rules and regulations , you will find that negative feedback is left when you did not reach the resolution. I offer you a resolution in a form of a refund. Clearly me and I perceive things differently, the tool was like new to me, without mechanical defects and in a very good looking condition. If it was exactly new, I could have sold it as new, however it was listed under used.
I answered your every single email in a timely manner, I lowered the price on the item to meet your offer, and I even mailed you a copy of a postal receipt right after I shipped it(on Saturday, the same day your payment was sent). Now I am offering you a full refund, like I promised. I had a great deal of frustration and spent at least an hour answering your picky questions, dealing with the fact that you refuse provide your communication in the language used on EBay, which is English. I also feel that I should have just thrown it away rather than selling it to you. I don't know what you do for living, but my time is valuable and $60 is not worth it.
Go ahead and leave the negative feedback, I have my right to dispute it.

I think you got one of those very unreasonable buyers that nearly everyone runs into eventually. Nothing you can do will please him, and there is obviously nothing wrong with the LM from the pictures, much less something that needs to be "restored." That's snake oil anyway, because all one ever has to do with a LM is send it back directly to Leatherman; they don't even bother fixing it, rather they give you an entirely new tool.

Just suck up the bad feedback and move on. There is no way you will win against someone who has taken that perfectly acceptable USED LM to some mythical repair and restoration shop that specializes in Leathermans. It's worth noting that now only sellers get feedback on Ebay, in the past your buyer may well have behaved exactly the same, but was able to blackmail with feedback.

Respond to the feedback very concisely and clearly that the knife is exactly how it was represented, you offered a refund, etc.

Moved from Community Center to the correct forum, FEEDBACK.

Go with what bobofish said. This man is the buyer from hell, nothing will make him happy. You offered him a refund with shipping thrown in already and he still wants to complain.

People like him make it hard for overseas buyers to be taken seriously. As unnecessary advice at this point, I would not deal with anyone who won't write in English. Not out of chauvinism since I could correspond with him in Russian myself, but because his lack of fluency may have confused his reading of your ad.

Write to him one more time, to cover yourself with eBay, very briefly: 'I am sorry you are unhappy with the Leatherman Charge I sold you. Please return it and when it arrives here I will refund your full payment plus return shipping."

I'm on your side, as this one looks nice and you did advertise it as used. I do suggest however that you chalk this one up to experience and live with the Ebay ding since you did advertise it as mint and as you and the buyer seem to agree, it does have wear.

I think use of the word "mint" is what got things stirred up here. Mint is a subjective advertising word that means different things to different folks. To some, it means just like new ... right? Besides, it's just not worth further agnst for one negative Ebay feedback mark. Even if he did agree to return the tool there's no telling what might come back to you and certainly no guarantee that he would remove the negative feedback strike.

It does puzzle me why you've brought an Ebay problem here though. If you're going to do that, then PLEASE list this fellows Ebay handle so those of us that are of a mind can block his bids on future sales. I will ........

Tell the guy to pound sand. Its a leatherman for cripes sake. If it was a museum piece maybe he should be upset but you liste the item as Used and at a fair buy it now price. Forget it and move on..

and he is emailing you in Russian and you took the time to translate. If I got a email in russian I would have deleted it..the guy is a tool..no pun intended..

FYI your shipping was a bit high. Look up other options in the future if you can, at least domestically.

One I like is USPS flat rate priority, they give you a free box (saves a couple $) and regardless of whether it's feathers or gold bullion it's the same price. They recently upped the price, but I think it's still less than $10.

$10?
Not to Israel it isn't.

The Flat Rate Priority box is for Domestic shipping only.

I charged him $12.98 for S&H to Israel. Anyways, he wrote me agane today. I guess I will go ahead and do what he asks for. Here is his letter.
Good evening! My first account on eBay is registered in the summer of 1999 and I corrected read many times and well I know. My reference in Russian and not through official ways, says only that I tried simply explain, probably a little emotionally, a situation, thus without demanding anything. I have not in vain addressed to experts and I can, if you it interests, to ask the document confirming a tool condition. In the Hebrew. As to time price I can assure that it is rather valuable to me, but my principles do not allow me to remain indifferent to similar. At the same time. You should bear responsibility (besides by rules eBay if you insist on observance of these), for a subject sold by you. And the similar statement, but if you to me were indifferent $60 is probably incorrect for my part, I would not try to sell a subject priced in this sum, and simply would present it. Unfortunately, I had no time to consult to our legalists, but one of our jurists, during after-dinner coffee, has advised to offer you such variant, well knowing me: you specify in your regret concerning your statements in my address as which I consider inappropriate, compensate the psychological sum of 54 shekels, in any form convenient for you, me, to Club or any charitable organisation, on your discretion, write a positive response (which sellers usually write already after performance by the buyer of obligations in the form of purchase and that payment) and on it I will consider this incident to be forfilled . Certainly, you receive for my part a response similar to yours. Yours faithfully, Vitaly.

It sounds like all he really wanted all along was to aggravate you. He's got way too much time on his hands.

How much is 54 shekels in USD?

Edit:

About $12.76 US at current exchange rate.

Here is what I just wrote him. Hopefully he plays along:

Sure, that sounds fair enough. I apoligise that I caused you any inconvenience and frustration. If I understood right I have a choice of any charitable organization to donate the 54 shekels(US $12.76). I'd like to donate these money to one local church in my city. You can be assured that I will do this on this coming Sunday. And also I just left you a positive feedback, that I believe you've earned. Thank you.

If you refund the money before you have the Leatherman in hand will you even see the tool again, ever?

I bet if you refund first he will have a free Leatherman to play with. Anyway he left you negative feedback so just ignore the guy and move on. You know you sent him a tool in excellent condition so believe in yourself and ignore this guy.

Why own a Leatherman tool if you are so bent out of shape from a few user marks?

+1
Tell him to go f%@k himself,......in Mandarin.

Everything worked out, he left me a positive feedback. That guy surely strange. I will keep my word and donate $12 to the church I attend, just on top of what I donate anyways on regular basis. Thanks to everyone for their support.

Just remember to do yourself the future favor of blocking him from bidding on any of your items.

And yes, he seems like exactly the kind of guy that would bid on your auctions again.

I just blocked him, on the off chance that I ever sell a Leatherman. I don't feel the need to have anyone extort donations from me, or any other nonsense.

Not a big deal if you don't want to do it, but since you've brought this to BF GB&U, it's customary to post this guys Ebay ID / handle so we can block his potential bids if desired. We don't need his real name.
