For Your Urban/E&E Kit or BOB - Bogota Entry Tools

The Postman dropped off a set of the titanium ones this morning...I'm now on the way to the hardware store to buy better locks for my house..

I have never picked a lock in my life...ever. In under 30 minutes I was through every doorlock on my house, plus three different padlocks that I have, two of which I were confident were "secure"

these little tools are a real eye-opener...I had no idea they would be as effective as they are.

As they say "locks are for honest people". Spend a grand on new locks and they'll bring this. Or in the case of my buddy here at work, throw your bbq grill through your french doors. :D

Wow. This thread has opened my eyes to something I never really thought about. I'm buyin' myself a pair and learnn' a new skill!

For everyone getting new locks, I will just bust out a window with a sparkplug.....

I carry a set of picks with me everyday. Almost use them daily. No, not breaking in, but so many of my clients require locks on their equipment racks, and no one ever keeps the damn keys, so I have to open them. Then close them back.

Yes I can do both, I have been practicing studying lockpicking for a couple of years and got pretty good with them. Most Masterlocks fall within seconds, and some highend Swedish made door locks, will never be picked.

They are a great tool, and must have for folks that share our mentality. Here's what I carry:

I've been eyeballing that southord for a couple weeks. Maybe i'll jump and buy it now. Thanks for the recomendation!

This is what I have started carrying in my wallet. They work really well and are compact: http://www.lockpickshop.com/CC-LOCK-PICK-SET.html

That credit card pick set was actually my idea. I have not received any royalties on it for well over a year...I have to check on that.

I sort of part ways on this being a skill that should only stay within certain circles.

Well, the Locksmith Mafia is a lot like the Medical Mafia, that's for sure.

SouthOrd has been resting on their name for well over a decade. Google for Southern Specialties and purchase a jackknife pickset that actually has a locking feature. More tools, too.

I sort of part ways on this being a skill that should only stay within certain circles. I carry a pick and a tension tool because I've been in situations where I needed access and had permission to have access but someone forgot the key, or lost the key. I think any skill or tool will only be used for bad purposes by people who are already of the mindset to commit crimes, and even if they don't know how to pick a lock they will use some other method. Locks are for honest people. Same with guns. I don't think we should outlaw guns simply because criminals use them in crimes. Besides, anyone that wants to learn how to pick locks need not look any further than a simple google search.

With all that said, there are classes that we only teach to LE or others with a real need for the particular skills. It's not so much that we are teaching something that can't already be found on the internet but we're hoping we have compiled it in a manner that allows the officer to make quick judgments on how to deal with the situation. For example, if you're chasing a fugitive through the woods how do you know whether he's a highly trained "bad ass" or simply a common thug? E&E skills, as with anything else, can be used for good and bad purposes and I would hope anyone who travels to dangerous places or pursues dangerous people would have a basic knowledge when it comes to a wide range of these skills.

The Sheepdog must posses the same capacity for violence, the same skills and the same lethal fangs and claws as the wolf.

I've got a credit card set and a little rbc folder set, the credit card set I don't really use but the other one I've got on me almost 24/7

I went for the SO Jackpick for the slimmer profile. SS does make some good stuff, though. I have a set of slims that I used for a long time, but since I got the SO, not so much. My plastic handled Jackpick is the one I use the most.

Thanks for all the info. and links. I will have to acquire a new skill to keep from doing Jack Nicholson's "here's Johnny" routine next time.

I first found out about the Bogotas over on USN about a month ago. I'm awaiting my second order of the Titan Bogotas from Serepick. Got my first set earlier this month and lost them withing 2 weeks! Matt over at SerePick was kind enough to sell and ship me a second set. If you live outside of the US email Matt first to confirm if he'll ship to your country and at what price.
