  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Forced O1 Patina - Dig it or Hate it???

Looks terrific to me. Maybe a little dark for some tastes, but I like it. The patterns in/on the blade are subtle but very interesting. Reminds me of some of the wood patterns on Japanese blades.

Also thanks for sharing your "trade secret." There's enough vague info given over the internet. Thanks for spelling it out.

i think it looks good. i was going to cold blue a blade i'm making just to see what its going to look like but i might try your recipe.

That is the nicest forced patina I've seen yet! I guess I'll have to try that recipe on one of my EnZo O-1 blades.

What color is that Micarta? It looks brown in your photos.

I am honestly not sure. I won the knife, so I didn't order it. However, I am pretty sure it is Dan's "natural" micarta. The first couple pictures are more representative of what it looks like. After all the treating, bleaching, baking soda, and washing, I wiped the handles with a light coat of mineral oil. That is probably why it looks darker/browner. In a day or two, it will be back to normal looking like the first couple pics.
