Well I tried to. Gotta pick up a prppa e tank tomorrow so I can test the atlas burner. And I'm about 2 seconds from spending 150 on a 66lb anvil.
But man am I hooked. Now I just need to decide if I want cruforge V or 1084 both are pretty cheap.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's a crack in that last pick. This was .110 15n20 so not the best stuff to use.

Not too shabby. Ya gotta start hitting something. I would now with 1084 initially, although you might want to buy some CFV for later. It's still around but there is a finite supply of the stuff left.

That looks like a cold shut more than a crack. Basically the edge mushroomed up when you were narrowing the bar then when you flattened it things folded up on themselves. Working the metal hotter helps prevent that.

I’ve not used 1084, but 1080 is easier under the hammer and MUCH easier under the sand paper than CruForgeV. There’s no arguing that CruForgeV makes a mighty fine blade though, so do get yourself some to try. Once you’ve gone through the effort with it you’re glad you did. I’m still messing around trying different things to find what I like best personally.

I gotta get me a better anvil, this 4140 round bar just ain't gonna cut it lol. Was thinking maybe 1/4x1 of CFV and maybe 3/16x 1 1/14 1084? If you ever wanna come up to the ocala area and show me a thing or to I'd buy the beer ;)

V,

I think that anvil by itself is a bit small but the promising thing is that it is hardened steel. If you set that anvil in a concrete base to add mass you would probably have a pretty decent set up.

Yea I think it's only 3 or 3.5 in diam. It cause problems when trying to straighten out the blade. And my 3lb hammer is about the same size haha.

Technically your anvil face need only be as big as your hammer face. In actual practice, when I stepped up in anvil size the bigger face made life a lot easier. Having some flexibility in how you work sometimes moving the piece sometimes moving the hammer depending on what you are trying to do is nice.

check anvilbrand dot com man. they have a 77 lber for only 200$. I just ordered my 112 lber for 400$. These are the real deal by respectable anvil makers.

I'm still waiting for it to get here, I'm i think 6 days into shipping right now. Me and my son both are about to be pounding metal. Cant wait. We are working strictly with 1084 as it is cheap as heck and easily heat treatable. We plan to stay with it until we can both produce good knives with it.

Is it the NC tool? I've been looking at that one

Scrolling down to the specs, it says the anvil is not cast iron. It says it is hardened and tempered steel.
Yeah there was a thread about it on another forum and if you look anvils on fire apparently that's a marketing trick Chinese sellers will use. I would buy it just to test it out but don't have the extra 150 to gamble with lol

Yeh i got the NC Calvary 112lb'er for like $400. The others around the 200 price range were the NC Short Sugar and the NC Tool

Also there is a Cliff Carrol 35lb'er on there for $188.
I've seen them. Well congrats on the Nvil man id love to hear a review of it in a few months when you wear her in.
I just told to the guy from old world anvils and I'm gonna go ahead and make a post anvil.
