Forged in Fire (History channel show)

I actually recognize quite a few people in that short trailer, all of them people i respect as great bladesmiths too. This show probably wont suck ! =)

I have reservations about the show format, unseen content, and production ( few reality shows are very real), but the guys doing the forging are going to be worth watching. I wrote the date on the calendar to make sure I don't miss it.

I'm with you Stacy. I have this gnawing feeling that what we really want to see will end up on the cutting room floor.

It does appear that the knives and swords will be weapons by design. I have far less interest in that than hunting, kitchen and utility knives, but swinging a sweet bird & trout at a dummy covered in samurai armor probably wouldn't be too exciting to the average viewer.

I'll absolutely be watching, but I also know I'll get turned off very quickly if the show devolves into fantasy land. Here's to hoping.

One thing is for certain is the show will give some plenty to complain about

It will be fun to watch, if people just relax maybe they can let themselves enjoy it for what it is...a TV show.

Don't get me wrong, I am planning on watching every episode. It will be entertaining for sure and possibly informational.

I am going to give it a try. I have liked a lot of the "real" reality shows at first. All of them start of showing the things we want to see(actually building cars, cabins, knives, shooting....). Then they switch to all of the B.S. and drama and I stop watching. I hope they will show the actual process to some degree. It seems like it will have a time limit, and anytime you put a time limit on something, you will put a limit on the quality also. We will see.

I recognized Matt Venier from Venier Forge. Awesome guy and he makes some amazing stuff. I've gotten to meet him and hang for a bit twice at Baltimore Knife and Sword's annual Fire & Brimstone hammer in. Good time and a great guy! I'm going to try and paste the embed link for the video here, so we'll see if it works. I'm sure Matt can't say much about his experience until the show airs, but I'm looking forward to talking more about it with him after his episode.

I think it's a great thing. Any time you have more people who think handmade knives are a good thing, that's progress.
Now, if only we could have a reality show that clearly demonstrates how one good handmade knife in the kitchen (or backpack) makes all the others obsolete...
