Hi all,

long time lurker, first time ( i think) poster...

I am eagerly awaiting my left-handed Pretium mid-tech knife from Elliot Williamson at Ferrum Forge (pre-order #58!). For me, this is the perfect knife: rugged flipper folder, thick ti frame lock (.17" scales) with Elmax lock bar insert, solid (.17" thick) 3.5" length, 63 rc Elmax blade( ideal HT for this steel, IMO), and the attention to detail (like the subdued texture around the handle edges and blade spine, and recessed jimping on the handle for extra grip when the blade is deployed). I could go on and on about this knife. Anyone else waiting on this beauty?

If you haven't heard of him, you should check out his website... He also recently posted a nice Pretium walkthrough video on his YouTube channel. Good stuff!

Love the design but the pocket clip design looks iffy. Looks like it will be stiff and shred your pockets. Great price for what you get. I'd throw the Curtiss f3 in there as well. Sold my Hinderer after getting one

Iceman, there are two types of pocket clips offered... The milled piece of titanium as seen in the prototype pics on the ferrum forge website, and the low profile clip as seen in the links above. The milled clip can be had for an additional cost, but honestly I prefer the newer, "pen" style clip.

Nice I didn't know there was an option. I had only seen the ones in his YouTube video. That makes it even better!

The flipper looks like it sticks out pretty far when open. Its a good looking knife, but besides the 63hrc blade, kinda a been there, done that design.

I am curious to see how that ELMAX holds up, though. Can't wait to see some thoughts on it after you get it.

Definitely doesn't have the oversized pivot like Hinderer or Strider, and I rather have the frame act as the stop, rather than have a stop pin for the added strength. I only say this because of the 2 brands you are comparing your knife to. Congrats though!

Pretty cool knife, but not going to make me forget my SnG. I'd say the pivot has nothing on a Hinderer or Strider. The pen clip while gentlemanly looks a bit scary for retention.

Good points, extrastout... I agree the pretium isn't as "overbuilt" as the strider or hinderer, but for me, there are trade-offs with the overbuilt folders that I don't necessary find practical, and consider some of the pretium differences "enhancements" (like the lock bar insert).

Triviamonster, while i agree that the pretium isn't anything entirely new, it features several design elements found among other premium knives and combines them in a package that I find to be superior for my needs, and a price that can't be beat. I'm really stoked about the 63 rc elmax. I also really like the discreet, understated look of the knife... Though at some point I might get the standoffs and pocket clip ano'ed.

Johnnytoxin, you can order a similar one without the flipper, but it'll be a custom... With a customer price tag, I'm sure!

I will definitely post an update once I have this in hand.

Reminiscent of an RJ Martin design. Not enough to make me forget my Strider.
