Forget Survival knives get a shovel !

Hey I liked "Silverado", especially when I was younger. I have the DVD on my shelf now.

Take my word for it, the typical chinese production that we see 95% of the time in the U.S. isn't the same that their military gets.

They are issuing some pretty good stuff from what I hear.

When they want to the Chinese are very capable of producing quality goods.
Got the chance to handle (but not shoot) a Norinco 1911A1 over the summer.
Great fit and finish, ambi-safety, extended slide release, high visibility sights, beavertail grip safety, skeletonized trigger.....$349 Canadian! They make a nice Sig copy as well.
I will likely buy a Norinco copy of the old Winchester 97 when A) i have money in my wallet and B) when they get them back in stock.
The M-14S's are nice too but i'm more of a shotgun guy.

The stuff that shows up in Walmart and assorted convenience stores is certainly not indicative of what the Chinese are capable of doing. I got to handle one of Norinco's Trench Gun repros and I was very impressed. I wish I could find one here in the States. They can and do make some quality things over there. I'd rather buy American, but there are some things that simply aren't made here anymore.

In my military time in the German Army we had a very sturdy spade as well. It was the older model with a pick and a wooden handle.

We used the spades for falling small trees, excavating shelters and opening of padlocks.

In WW II the soldiers used the spade with sharpened edges as a hand-to-hand combat weapon and you can virtually decapitate your enemy with a spade.

I will go for one of these Chinese spades!:)

tuxtex, if you buy one please post a review here. There's no way I'm paying that much for a shovel, but I'd be interested to see what it can really do. There are some handy features on that Chinese shovel, but can it really withstand the abuse. I especially like the wire cutter feature, as this is something that can be difficult without the right tool.

When I was in the Army we used the tri-fold for a ton of things, including H2H, but I've never thought to use it as a grappling hook, an ice/dirt axe or as a very very tiny shield with which to defend yourself from stick-wielding maniacs.
