So, I've got this customer that is having some swords shipped to me to do some work on and then he wants me to send them to a "forwarding company" in L.A. This customer appears to be in Hong Kong the swords are originating in Wisconsin.

It seems like I vaguely recall there being some sort of scam involved with forwarding companies. Anyone want to refresh my memory or tell me I'm just being paranoid?

Thanks!

What scam would be involved with someone else's merchandise? They are his swords, not yours. Lots of people abroad use forwarding companies because so many U.S. based shippers won't ship overseas.

Just don't agree to any payment arrangement that involves cashing a large check, taking your cut, and forwarding the rest to the customer, or his agent, along with the merchandise. A month later, when the check bounces to the moon, you will be left "holding the bag" for the entire amount.

Maybe that was what was tripping my memory. Thanks Mycroft! I think he intended to pay via paypal. I think I'll insist on that or international money order.
