Today, I have a new knife for your consideration; A damascus and fossilized walrus oosik fighter. The blade is 8.25" of 0.187" thick random pattern Alabama Damascus steel with a deep 14" hollow grind, and probably will be the last blade I'll ever do from Alabama Damascus. The handle is the main attraction; a very dense piece of fossilized walrus oosik, which is, for those who do not know, essentially a fossilized walrus penis (bacullum technically). This makes for an incredibly dense, hard, and resilient knife handle material. The guard, ferrule and pommel plate are all made from Alabama Damascus with fluting and checkering file work and a 304 stainless spacer as well. The pommel is threaded and peened as well. Blade is 8.25", handle is 4.75", overall length is 13.00" Its not often that I get to make a knife this cool, I hope you like it. Comes with a well fitted heavy leather sheath.

It’s great steel, the blend they use, they way it heat treats, it’s all great. The test knife I made to test the steel preformed wonderfully. The issue is it sucks with its pattern. I purchased this plate of random pattern from them, and after grinding bevels into 2 small knives, I realized that most of the billet’s pattern was just straight linear lines, no variation, no movement, just straight linear lines... for more than 80% of the billet. To make this knife, I had to take what was left and re forge the steel to add some pattern. What’s the point of buying premade damascus, if you still have to forge it to add any pattern at all. I know it was “random”, and I was subject to whatever came out, but is it too much to ask for a little randomness in my random pattern damascus? Simply put, I have never forged a piece of random pattern my self that was as boring as this was. From now on, if I am using damascus, I’ll be forging it myself.

Sorry for the mini rant there, just upsets me. It’s not cheap stuff, and I’d expect that most people would like to get their money worth from a purchase like that.
