I highly doubt it was put there to be used as a hanger. ....

A lot of post-WW2 German hunting and tourist knives were made in that style and are still made today by folks like Linder. So it's not necessarily strictly a "Case Kodiak" style.
It sure looks like something is still hanging from that blade.

You had to remind me of that farce..
20 years ago, I found a stag handled bowie in the garage of a house we were flipping. Took it to a gun and knife shop and sold it for $75. No markings on it, so I have know idea of the maker.
Current house, I found a old folder in the medicine cabinet. It was shoved way over to the side, difficult to see. Found it after living here for a few months. Kinda freaked me out when I finally saw it, because I swear we cleaned it when we moved in.
