I believe you can get infraction points for that sort of thing. Enough and you're gone.

And I understand a lot of the rules that have to be in place on a forum and a business, but this really, really seems to be ... sad. I just don't have another word for it.

Just a heads up on the site. They add products and change prices often. So its a good idea to check them every once in a while.

Do they have gear that would help me get to mountains and other useful info terrain, useful info?

I may be wrong, but I thought "dealspotting" was saying "Hey blablabla.com has thisnthat for $XX!!! I don't think that simply passing on the url of a site with good gear and prices is prohibited. (But what do I know...)

They got everything on there. Alot of it is stuff that is discontinued and they have left overs. Or colors that dont sell as well. I need a backpacking warm clothes and they got lots of it.. One guy got a northface ultra light tent with a foot print for $123 new. That was about 71% off the regular price. By the time i got on they were all sold. So yea you can find good prices on things to get you to the mountains. Comming back is up to you.

OHHH!!!

Here I was thinking that useful info deals on gear for useful info terrain would be somewhere else!

That definitely does make sense...I have often found that by going useful info on gear for the useful info, I could ride the useful info to its useful info point on the mountain, and get into the snow for awesome prices.

Jeez.

You guys must think we're stupid. I know what you're doing and if it doesn't stop infractions will be issued for dealspotting. You need to edit out your not so secret coded messages before I get back to this thread at 8PM tonite. This includes the quotes. Do I make myself clear? Trying to pull a fast one on BFC is not a good thing to do.

I apologize, and do not think this is an excuse, I'm simply explaining why I did what I did. I read the policy on deal spotting and investigated the site and honestly thought it did not apply. The site in question does not actually even sell any of the products, it simply links to sites that are selling them.

The policy on deal spotting as found in the FAQ gives as an example a person talking about a specific place to buy a specific product. I understand the reason to limit this. However this situation is different, the site in question is really just a collection of links to different items. By giving out the site in question we are neither talking about a specific item or a specific online vendor, simply a webpage that holds this type of information.

Would telling someone to use google products search be "deal spotting"?

What about telling somone to look for a product in question at their local REI/Dunhams/Whatever? (this is done quite frequently here)?

I thought the answer to these would be no, so that's why I thought it would be ok to post the site. The site actually links to alot of very well known online vendors that I'm sure everyone here uses alot.

I see that you as a moderator do not share my interpretation and I have edited all original posts by me. Won't happen again. I'm sorry.

Apparently I was not the only one with this idea about what constitutes deal spotting.

If these sites and this type of behavior does indeed violate the "deal spotting" policy, I think that the policy as listed in the FAQ needs to be revised to reflect this. Perhaps something along the lines of "Don't talk about anywhere you can buy anything, ever." seems like it could work.

In the "Going fishing/camping" thread I told Panch0 to check craigslist for a used tent for his camping trip. Was this deal spotting? I'm really unclear about what is and isn't permitted now.

Moderator, why not just delete the thread if it goes against site rules??
