Not to hijack the thread, but here is a head's up on the 2C 3W ($30) sold as 'Task Force' at Lowes - probably not bad advice for other PRC-made lights. The latest variant is rated at 150 Lumens, while the previous version, also offered at 'Advance Auto' for $20, is around 80 Lumens - both probably quite optimistic. My first reaction was on how sharp edged and crude the construction was, especially compared to the very closely priced US-made 3W LED MagLites. Installing the C-cells can leave a DNA sample at least in the knurling. The batteries rattle, as the cases ID is a bit ambitious. The switch is, well, cheesy feeling. The beam was uncentered - possibly because, after removing the front bezel, the beam surround (reflector?) and lens were molded together - and would not sit flat on the circuit board due to the soldering slop. Too many problems, I put it back in the clamshell and returned it for a credit. It does include a tote bag - possibly saving one from some of it's sharp edges.
I mention this simply because an American made 3W LED MagLite is far better made, if a bit dimmer. It works well - is a known quantity - with great build quality - and nicely threaded parts. The 3W Luxeon 'unit' they use is not as bright - ever - but will also decrease it's output as it heats up, again, needing better heat sinking. The newest variant of the Surefire G2L has an Al bezel to help there - a great light, no doubt, at twice the price - and using a pair of CR123s, too. Of course, the P60L is three times the cost - but nicely made of Al.
The headlamp idea is great, but I've found an EDC goodie, like an Inova X1 with it's single AA cell, to be quite sufficient for my 'woods walking' sortees. I am now trying a 2xAAA .5W River Rock (Target - $10) unit, in a KSF pocket sheath with my B R Huntsman as an urban EDC - perhaps a hiking trial is needed?
