I can definitely relate to this post!

Haven't yet handled a Vallotton though, looks slick.

You should. It's stunning and very fondle-able.

That rajah would work great as a church pants knife!

I don't think I could ever bring myself to buy one, but man do they make me smile.

Its a beast of a knife! I got it for night carry around the city and the occasional woods-ing with the guys on the weekend. Almost sliced my finger off the other day closing it one handed.

But yeah, I think my dress pants would fall off if I tried to carry it in my pocket...

So after a measly two months, here's the collection now... :D

All great knives, all see carry time. Spyderco has fully won my loyalties.

You and I joined at the same time and each have 8 new Spydies.......it's a conspiracy!

Solid group!
Gotta be hard not to fill up the pockets in the morning now.

...so, what's next on the list, lol... Yojimbo 2? Delica SB? Stretch ZDP? Military? Domino? :p

this thread makes me feel much, much better about the fact that I discovered BladeForums like 18 months ago and have only accumulated 6 Spydercos ... I think I'm going to share this link with my wife.

Phenn, that's quite the collection you've got going already, you've got some real sweet blades in there!

Six knives in 18 months! That's a new knife every 3 months and your wife should be outraged. You can't excuse your bad behavior by pointing to other bad behavior.

I hope you take that as the joke that it was meant to be. :D

^ Ive gotta ask, what is the flashlight? Looks kinda like a Maratac but not...

If your still looking for a dress knife I'd recommend a Chapparal 1 or my favorite, a Gayle Bradley Air. Collection is looking good so far. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! I'm eyeing the Air...or have been for the last week or so. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled on the Trading Post.

The flashlight is a ThruNite Ti3. Powerful little AAA light. Hits 120 lumens on the bright setting. Works for what I need it to. :)

Thanks! I had to sell about half of my disc golf disc collection to finance four of the knives, though. My wife has a strict one-hobby rule. :)

Just saw this thread and it prompted me to register and post as I too am a newly confirmed knifeaholic. My addiction took hold about a month ago. I really don't have an allegiance to one brand, my only real stipulations are that the knife looks cool to me, is well made of quality material, and made in the USA. My first purchase was a Kershaw Camber, which is a real nice knife IMO. Next up came a Kershaw Skyline and a Benchmade Mini Grip 556. Most recently (actually arrived yesterday) a Spyderco Manix 2. I like each and every one of them, and they all get carried. Overall though, if I had to rate quality, I would have to say that even though the Benchmade and Spyderco were the more expensive of my limited collection, the Kershaw's win out. Not to get off topic, but for $40 what you get with a Kershaw Skyline is tough to beat. That's a real quality knife for that price. Anyway, both Kershaw's came sharp, perfectly centered, smooth function, and solid lock up. The issues I have with the Benchmade and Spyderco are nit picky, but if I spend $100 on a knife I think that buys me a little nit picking. The mini grip functions great, smooth as butter, and solid lock up. My issue with it is out of the box not only was it not sharp, I would say it was dull. A little work on my Spyderco Sharpmaker (yeah I bought one of those too) whipped it into shape, but again for almost $100 I expected some sharpness out of the box. The Manix 2 I really like, its my first Spyderco, but doubtfully my last. The one issue I have with it is the blade is not at all centered. This doesn't effect the function, but again it was $100. If Kershaw can center a $40 Skyline, I expect a $100 Spyderco to be centered. Anyone know how to correct that?

Anyway, I'm definitely hooked. I'm already eyeing the Manix 2 XL and full size Grip 550HG for future purchases. I usually do my window shopping at bladehq and gpknives, anyone use those or have other suggestions? I'm also always open to any purchasing suggestions.

Remember guys, just tell the wife she should be happy, it could have been guns . . . but I have several of those too :)

I pretty much had the same experience as the OP, I got 5 Spydies in less than a month though (no wife, explained below)! I had previously been gifted or bought SOGs, Cold Steel, and was thinking I'd get a Benchmade as they seemed to be next in progression from the other two. All it took was an out of stock Benchmade and the dumb luck of saying "What the hell, let me see one of those Spydercos" at a Cabela's and I was hooked. My next Spyderco purchase will be a Sharpmaker, probably this week. My old stones just aren't cutting it (pun intended).

I'm divorced without kids and don't pay alimony so I don't have someone to tell me what I can and can't do with my fun money. She was a ignorant woman that thought she wanted to do things like party and date druggie types while we were married. So ignorant that her own lawyer (in front of me no less while standing outside the courtroom) ran through all the things that would make a woman divorce a man (somehow none of which applied to me?), told her she was crazy and recommended she seriously rethink what she was doing. She didn't, and has been miserable ever since. Me, I couldn't be happier. Funny thing, I see her parents every few days, work on their cars for free, and spend holidays with them. They told me "She divorced you, we didn't". Weird huh?

Her mom will be getting some Spyderco kitchen knives this year for her B-Day, her Dad will get a Spyderco folder for his. Likely a Delica or Manix 2 as he likes mine a whole damn lot. "Found BladeForums and THIS happens..." is the right way to put it, looking at everyone else's blades just makes you want to buy more yourself. If a particular folder is that popular it must be pretty great and I just have to check it out. I haven't so much as glanced at another company's knives since I got my Delica. It helps that Spyderco knives are built function (and seemingly ergonomics) first, they just fit my hand better than any other knives that I've ever handled!

haha remnar, so true ... I don't think it would make her go any easier on me. It would, on the contrary, probably raise some suspicions about how much time I spend cruising BladeForums. and I certainly don't want that happening :)

I think the tough thing here is not even that folks are trying to pressure anyone to buy knives, or that it feels like a race to buy knives: the reason we all buy more knives once we arrive here is simply that we are exposed to so many different knives that we never would have glanced at twice before. since getting on this forum, I've discovered the Yojimbo 2, the Chaparral, the Slysz Bowie, the Stretch ... all knives that I either didn't know about or wasn't interested in before, but now am looking into. I've managed to just buy one of them so far and am valiantly resisting the call of the other 3.

it's like being at a some kind of crazy bar where you came for the hot chicks but wind up being forced to find out that, darn it, all of the other chicks really DO have great personalities. and they want to hang out with you, but not in a creepy way. tough to say no :D

Sometimes, in-laws are the best. If anything ever happened to my wife, I'd never quit hanging out with her family. I've even threatened her sisters that I'd have to marry one of them to stay in the family... :o

That illustration...spot on. No one on BF so far has attempted to convince me that a knife is worth buying. But I still buy them. :D
