Found in the bush

I haven’t had much luck in the woods, but twice on somewhat “settled” land I’ve found knives. When I was a teenager, exploring the old farms and fenced in woods was a favorite past time. Most are presumably abandoned, and most of the area around my parents was undeveloped, with old remnants of houses from the 40’s. Mind you, my town wasn’t expanded this far out at that time so these were by and large late era homesteaders living quite far from what the center of town would have been. Once my friend and I found what looked like an old cow shed, run down and full of copperheads, with two seemingly ancient machetes sticking from a wood post. We visited again and again for weeks and when we decided that it was most likely abandoned, as it didn’t seem anyone could even access it by vehicle, we took the machetes. As far as I know, nobody’s made any effort to rebuild that area or even look for the old buildings.

Another time I was setting up a service in the older cemetery near the center of town and I found one of those BudK Aitor knockoffs, lying in the center of the road. Given that the area is a haven for the homeless, I moved it from the road and left it near some other backpacks and clothing. (It didn’t look like it had been used, so I wasn’t too concerned with the possibility of murder weapon).

I love finding old things in the woods. Seems to be more rare here in East Texas than it was when I lived in Arkansas, I was always finding random old cars and machinery in the middle of nowhere, most left behind after a mining operation ceased and they decided it was too difficult to drive out of the valley.

Military bases are likely covered in the things, dropped and ripped from pouches. Lost a really good knife in Wainwright and found a really crappy one in Fort Lewis.
