What do you lust after? Sure, you find something every day, but what's your current "perfect knife, but I can't justify/afford it" knife? Right now for me, it's a John Howser Carbon Fiber trapper (<1 oz):

Or a CRK Mnandi:

Why not buy it 2nd-hand from BF?.. It really dosn't loose value at the 2nd-hand price.. unless you beat it to HELL.. you can put use on it and sell it back for the same you bought it for on here.. + its really saught after... i sold my CR small sebbie within a few hours of posting... i bought it brand new so i lost around $30.. but hey who cares :) anyway.. i liked the small sebbie, but just wasn't for me ... too.."fragile".. i guess.. i think i found my favorite EDC (after years and years of edcing knives)..

Its the strider SNG.. i freaking love this thing ;)... still breaking it in acctually just recieved it around 2 days ago..
I also purchased the SMF along with it.. a GREAT knife, but a tad bit big for my EDC choice.. but im gana definetly keep it :) great for when i go camping and hunting.. a big solid knife !!
I intend to buy the PT aswell... its not that i cant justify the price.. i just cant seem to find 1 for sale or on websites there all sold out... its frustraighting -.-

anyway as i said, treat yourself to one of those knives!!! just get it 2nd hand so if you need $$ you can sell it back for virtually no looses.. ;)

LATER!

Strider made a custom V42. I don't need it, but it's perfect and I want it. But I'm not going to buy a knife that costs more then my first truck did.

at this point i can't see my self needing anything beyond a ZT 0560. heavy duty, probably slices well, and would relegate the rest of my knives to outdoor use. however, it is either that or knifemaking for a year, and i need the hobby.

Right now, any traditional folder from Pena, Ken Erickson, Bose, Rick Menefee, Mike Alsdor for custom slippies.

Too many to list for other styles. I love custom bowies, more modern locking folders, production knives like Busse (I have a double handful, but always want more).

If I had a wad of cash it would be almost impossible to choose which one I would go for first.

Maybe a long Bagwell Hells Bells fighting bowie? Amongst many many other custom bowie makers! Big ones, fat ones, long ones, wide ones...........I love Bowies!

A Large ATS-34 polished blade Sebenza. I really dig the blade profile on these earlier versions of the sebbie.

I lust for a custom slip joint, but I really have not decided what I really want yet. It has to be the "right one" the first time around as I probably won't go back for seconds.

For me it would be a large sebenza and a Bose custom. Two that I really want but as of now a the future as far as I can see cant afford. but looking is free

IMO you just have to ask yourself what your expenses are. There are likely several luxuries that total up to a helluva lot more than the cost of a very nice knife. Nobody "needs" a $200+ knife, let alone a $1,000+ one. I would take a chance on buying what you reeeeeeeealy want... I mean... even if it IS a $1,000+ knife... you can get a chance to view your ideas & wants against your version of reality and see if you are happy... If not... the knife has likely closely retained its monetary value.
