The Stockman has many fans among traditional knife users. In my day, we called it a Jackknife and we carried them everywhere as a kid. Even as an adult, these knives are always close by: one blade for packages, one for work tasks, and one for food! Awesome.

Among the approximately 4 inch (3 7/8 to 4 1/4) USA versions, which do you favor and why? I love the Buck 301, the slightly larger 307, Case 47, Remington 9501 and others. Here’s a pic of an underrated model, the amazing Schrade 885UH.

You?

I have two and I love them (hope 4 3/8 is still ok). The 2024 BF knife and a Queens/Pardue with full Wharncliffe blade:

I like the 3 7/8 to 4 1/4 inch and larger stockman the best. I suspect it is my favorite pattern, since I have more of them than any other pattern.
My most carried and used:

L/R from top:
Schrade Old Timer 858 and 8OT.
The 858 at 4 5/16 inches closed is my largest ... at least until I find one of those 8" closed Rough Ryder 30th Anniversary gems.
GEC Tidioute 828313 and a Imperial (hollow bolster) Bicentennial.
'24 BF Stockman and a (genuinely) Pocket Worn Case 62375CV.
Western 062 and Case 10375SS.

I also have a standard production Buck 301, '18 BF Buck 301, Imperial 44 something Double Eagle (with a Homelite chain saw blade etch, and brass bolsters ... effectively a brass bolstered 8OT with rosewood covers, stainless blades ... and pinned construction), and a KaBar 1109, which see limited carry and use, and a offshore Uncle Henry 885UH that does not.

Great idea for a thread and good timing too. I’ve been considering a large Stockman but I don’t know what I want yet. This thread will be very helpful.
For USA, ~4 inch, my personal top 10, in order:

1 Buck 301
2 Case 47
3 Schrade Uncle Henry 885UH
4 Case Sowbelly Stockman
5 Buck 307
6 Craftsman 9500
7 Case 75
8 Schrade 8OT
9 Camillus 89
10 Remington 9501 (green)

Thanks, Rick, I need to take a better picture of that one. And thanks, Joe, the stockman is my favorite. Queen has done some excellent jigged bone over the years.
This one is from the early 1950s, in winterbottom bone.

And here is an interesting one, a gift from Duncan in checkered wood.
