Freaky bug/parasite question--what the hell did I kill?

Sort of an outdoors question though it happened in the home since I live on an old farm property. The other day I saw a fly that was skittering around sluggishly on the floor in my kitchen. I crunched it with my thumb and TONS (probably 100+) little tiny red bugs came erupting out of the fly's carapace!:eek::eek: They looked almost like super-tiny ticks or something and just started swarming all over the dead fly and the surrounding floor. I grabbed some tick & flea spray from under the sink and saturated the little effers until they were all dead but it was seriously freaky and a Google search turned up nothing.

What the hell was that fly infested with? They were obviously parasitic and living inside the thing. :barf: Any ideas?

Only thing I have heard of similar to that was in a Dean Koontz book :D

Doesn't sound pleasant.

Yeah it was freaky as hell! Maine isn't known for having disturbing bugs, so it was especially shocking in that respect. If I lived somewhere more tropical I'd practically expect it! :D

Star trek voyager had those come out of their
Necks. They called them macro viruses.

its the new breed of super fly when you kill it 100 little baby parasites crawl out and embed themselves into the human ears and other body cavities, I have heard of this.... According to my source the CIA invented these little parasites and they are equipped with cameras and gps tracking as so the goverment can get them imbedded into our bodies and keep track of us knife folks....J/k... but it sounded good right???:D

Call a local bug spraying company you know the ones that come out to your house and ask them and describe it to them. I'm sur they would know. Then fill us in! Sounds awesome! Look I call people like that all the time or bring it ( bug) to a local nursery and ask them.

I mopped up and disposed of the dead "hive" as soon as they were done marinating in bug killer for about 5 minutes. So I don't have anything to bring in to anyone, unfortunately. It's just very odd that something so unusual should show up in New England--rural Maine of all places--and NOT show up in a Google search! The only thing I was able to find was someone asking the same question as me on a Yahoo! Answers board and they didn't get a response.

When men in black suits and sunglasses show up to your door asking where you put the bodies at and tell you "you saw nothing but a regular fly", then you will believe me more how you think they got Bin laden.....It was the SPY FLY, so the question is not what did you see... It is what have you done to have the government send the spyfly into your house....lol

It sounds like it was infested with carpet mites.

Sounds like the most likely suspect so far! I guess carrion beetles actually carry carpet mites around on their backs and deposit them on dead critters they find, where the mites hop off and attach to and attack flies and their larvae. This removes competition for the carrion beetle.

Yeah I can't describe the gut-sinking feeling of crunching a fly and then seeing something 20 times as gross come spilling out of it. :barf:

I do understand your reaction, I walked through some sort of tick nest once and it looked like live brown suger from my knee to my ankle. I freaked and soaked my leg with gas & 2 cycle mix.... then had water hose bath to cut the fuel.... LOL!

PS & off topic- My wife gave me a Golok and Bushlore from your business for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. FIRST rate! Getting good use form both of them. Inexpensive enough not to be afraid to use but high quality enough to be VERY good to use.

::shudder:: Nice description! Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it! :o

Glad you're happy with the Golok and Bushlore! They make a great tag-team combo! :D:thumbup:

I am not really one to be afraid of bugs (aside from spiders) but.. bugs living in bugs.. that is just creepy. Don't even want to know what it made your gut feel like, mine is already starting to feel funny from hearing about it.
