Free Knife Book Contest

Well, Greg, this is not what you asked for, but why not make it a pass around book? Pick a member from this thread and send it to him. He keeps it a week and passes it to another member for a week and so on. I'm sure we can figure a simple way to keep track of it. Might even inspire someone to donate other books to do the same with.

Jake,
That is actually a good idea but since I posted it as a contest I will let the winner decide what they want to do with it.

Thanks all for posting, we still have a few days. There has been some great names thrown into the hat.

AFter seeing the initial post, went down thru the others, to see if someone had already nominated him, so I could either nominate or second/third,whatever. Lo and behold, I find he nominated me. I can't believe it. Thanks, Dave, but I don't think I've contributed enough here.

Dave, proven by the vast amount of knife reading material he just sold, is obviously a voracious reader of knife material, and has a lot less now than he's used to.

More importantly, he is a total square shooter, who is generous and patient. He always takes the high road in his numerous posts, and is the sort of gentleman all of us should strive to be. He does what he "preaches" in his signature. I can't think of anyone more worthy as a human being.

I nominate Deon (from Pretoria, S.A.). We met on Bladeforums.com and have been communicating for several months now. We chat about what is available at our local dealers, where to get best prices and discuss new knives.

He recently offered some knives for sale. I was interested in one that he said was in good condition, so he invited me to his home to take a look. On Tuesday night I drove through (about 26 miles away) and checked out the Benchmade CQC7, which happened to be in mint condition. He gave me a really good price on it as well. I spent about an hour with him, just chatting about knives and he showed me a couple of his, an Emerson PUK, a Gerber Yari, A Chris Reeve Project 4 and a Sebenza.

It was so cool to actually meet another Bladeforums member, one who is passionate about his hobby , friendly, easy to approach and generous to share his knowledge. I left with a good deal and a good feeling that we will be friends for a long time to come. I think that is what this forum is all about.

I would like to nominate.....the inscrutable Comrade Chang. A young man who is serious about gaining knife knowledge, who's posts have provided a lot of enjoyment, willing to help folks with his sharpening experience and knife reviews, and as a student probably couldn't fit purchasing this book into his budget.

I was wondering how long that would take, Mikebo!

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

I nominate maddog2020. His generosity has never been forgotten. He deserves some class A reading material. Thanks again!

Just a reminder, nominations are being accepted until Midnight tonight EST....then the winner will be chosen. I'm not choosing BTW, it would be too hard for me to pick!

Wow! You have to be kidding me! I can't believe it!

This is just amazing, and I can't say how much it means to me. I couldn't believe Dave even nominated me, and it looked like Mike was the clear winner here.

Anyhow, thank you very much! I feel very blessed. The forums have been the main focus of my strange life since I discovered them in early February. I get so much from reading and commenting. It is the first time I've looked forward to something positive in a long while -- well, I do buy a few lottery tickets.

Now I can hardly wait to see this great book! I just bought a KaBar, which I intend to hold while I read the book. Been wanting one a long time -- carried one in Vietnam.

Again, thank you all so very much, especially you, Mark, for donating the book in the first place. It was very generous of you. And, thank you, Greg for having the contest.

Dave
