When you say mainstream, are you referring to your preferred genre; i.e. contemporary/literary or just referring to general independent success? If the latter is the case, do you have a favorite genre? I know you mentioned an earlier scifi work. Please excuse my nosiness but I'm always interested in how writers get their start.

I'd like to be able to spend my time 100% writing novels. I don't care what genres; I have several that I like. My series work to date is action material.

Phil what are the titles of your books?

My two self-published novels are Demon Lord and [/i]Mechanical War[/i]. I also published a self-defense text called Shorthand Empty Hand.

I have an essay in the Warriors: On Living with Courage, Discipline, and Honor collection from Paladin. My two stand-alone books through Paladin are Flashlight Fighting and Street Sword (which just came out).

None of my serial work is on the market yet. I'll post about it when it gets there.

So what put you in this mood?

It was a good day and I got some responses to a few different projects. Being a writer is like being a heroin addict; you hate it, but you also love it and can't stop, and the more success you get, the faster you want success to come and the greater it has to be to keep you happy.

Yeah, I'm in a for a free knife.

Myself, I'm a horrible writer but avid reader. My brother wrote a book on the Tibetan community living in India. Very small readership target makes a very hard sell. But, he loves his subject and he loves to write, so he keeps going. I understand your "heroin addict" analogy just from watching him.

mike.

Hey Phil,

Very kind gesture. I am glad everything is going well for you. We all have periods in our lives when things are pretty crummy and times when nothing can go wrong. I'm glad you are in a position that you want to be in. I haven't had as good of fortune as you have the last few years but hopefully it will be my turn for things to turn around soon. I hope you continue to be where you want to be in your life and that everyone on BF will encounter the same satisfaction, myself included.

I'm in, thanks for the very kind offer.

Hey, I'll hereby state that if I do so happen to win this one, I'll toss in one of my own and do the same kind of contest.

Thanks,
-Parke1

Well Sharp Phil, that is a inspiring post. I guess we should all follow our muse. Have a great day and sure count me in.

I'd love a free knife. Thanks Phil for your generosity.

I'm still also looking for fulfillment and true content in my career. I seem to have strayed quite far from where I wanted to be and what I wanted to be doing in the past few years. Hopefully I'll find that elusive "dream job" someday as you have.

Wow, that's pretty generous of you sharp phil. Since it doesn't seem that you've made a dicision yet, then I would like to enter. I would love to get a new knife, well because I love knives and guns, and I just don't have a whole lot of knives, so a free one would be stupendous! Anyways, congradulations and good luck on your writings.

would also like a free knife :D

is this contest open to us canadians as well? or restricted to CONUS?

regardless i'd like to enter for the chance!

what knife will be given away anyways?
