Free Your Ergos, Remove The Clip

I’m a car guy. I build em, have em, like em without scratches. Which, pocket clips typically are really good at doing. So, no clips here (or let’s say very very rare). I carry my small seb and my mnandi with the clip delete tab (and barrel on mnandi) loose in my pocket just like my usual carry traditionals. Works just fine for me!

I really like the CRK clip so I usually carry my CRK clipped
However I carry my impinda loose in the pocket
I also did it for a large 21
I also carry some other brands clipless

I have no problems with that

In order to prevent them to move in the pocket I put a lanyard on these knives
If you don’t put beads (at least not an heavy one) and is the lanyard is not too long, it helps stabilising the knife in the pocket… and it helps to grab the knife

This could be solved by the CRK leather slip, that’s how I kept my bog oak sebenza nice.

Ohh wait you were talking about scratching cars not the sebenzas lol. Makes more sense.

I have several William Henry's that don't have clips (they come with leather sheaths with clips that I don't use). I carry them in my watch pocket (5th pocket) I carry my slipjoints there as well. My jeans and cords have deep 5th pockets so knives fit nicely and don't rub against keys and stuff.

While we were still dating I gave my husband a large Inkosi as his first CRK. When he took it out of the box for the first time he looked it over and played with it, then dropped it into his pocket. Within a week he had the clip off, and that was how he carried it. Right front pocket.

Pic of his Inkosi for tax.

Clipped only for me. Can't stand any knife loose in my pocket, although I do use a Spyderco Dragonfly with clip still attached (dealer exclusive sprint in DLC Cruwear) as a moneyclip). I work with my hands a lot, and often need my knife when my hands are dirty, so being able to access the clip/top of knife handle is a big benefit.

Wow that’s a good idea with the dragonfly. Never thought of making it a money clip but it does look good

Sebenza without a clip looks great and feels amazing to use

I'd much rather use and fondle it that way

The only thing the clip is good for is carrying the knife securely

Which is what I'm doing 98% of the time unfortunately

I don't trust my pockets enough to go clipless...

With my safety pinned pocket trick I feel sure I won’t loose the knife. I suppose YMMV depending on the type of pants your wear.

I feel safe with the clip too, and carry that way when wearing work gloves or doing things that require frequent retrieval and stowing of the knife. But honestly I feel a little more likely to lose it when clipped.

I know they are called "safety pins", but it still freaks me out to think about the prospects of that coming open in my pocket. I'd probable opt for a few stitches in the pocket liner if I were going to go that route.

Me too. But I can't have it flopping around with these big blue tooth car keys in my pocket. I don't like to look like I'm smuggling a small cache of arms in my pockets. I've grown a habit of walking through the garage, dealershits, kitchen, other peoples houses, etc protecting my knife clips with my right hand. It's also kind of trained me to not leave the house without one as I cover an empty space in my pocket and go 'dern it no knife, turn back, turn back now'.

I recall the thread I learned about this and the guy who shared it had been doing it for years, even left the safety pin in when he washed his pants, and only ever had one come open. I haven’t had one open yet, not to say I don’t worry a little about it.

I may eventually run a few stitches. My wife said she could do it in a minute on the sewing machine.

Sheaths.

Alright, I’ve found another reason to go clipless. When you remove the clip on a 21 the knife is soooooooo much smoother to open.

I think the lockbar pressure on the detent ball results in drag on the blade. When you remove it, the change is really noticeable. I was thinking my knife with a clip was just not as smooth, but I was mistaken. Both are like glass, removing the clip has a noticeable impact on how it opens and closes.

Probably not noticeable with with 31 due to the canted clip.
