Free Your Ergos, Remove The Clip

I prefer clipless myself, but I'd been experimenting with using the clip on my small 31. Yesterday, as I was lifting the outrigger on the bucket truck I discovered my knife laying on the ground. Apparently when I took the bucket harness off the clip snagged and the knife fell out of my pocket, so I'm back to clipless carry once again.

Dude, I'm a klutz. I clip a knife to my pocket and it gets launched as if from a cannon. I find it somewhere with the clip bent. If it's not a seat belt or the arm of a chair, then it's a tree branch, or an extension cord. If I somehow make it through the day, then the clip scratches up the paint on my car door. Everyone else seems to manage this. I'm just not graceful, I guess.

Pretty much why I moved away from them in the first place. As far as clips go I think crk does an excellent job, but alas not for everyone it seems. 🤷‍♂️

All my small Sebenzas and Mnandis go clipless (with filler tabs and screws). It is exponentially more comfortable in use and is much less likely to get lost (for me). I also just personally prefer not to announce my knife carrying with a visible clip.

I going clipless with the Zaan for a while.
I’m a lefty with a right hand Zaan and find the pocket clip to be a hotspot on my med/large hand.
I happened to have a Sebenza filler tab around. I also decided to remove the extra body pin/screw/spacer.
And still without the rubber washers on the studs.
So far it feels way better in hand but I am a little worried about it sliding out of pocket.

rishma, I'm one of several members that posted about using safety pins to subdivide pockets to isolate and vertically orient a slipjoint. Another trick is to use a small safety pin horizontally to adjust how high the knife sits. Makes it easier to access a short pocketknife. I'm also one of the people who bugged Chris Reeve to add pocket clips to the Sebenza. I was enamored of the original Spyderco Clipits, so I didn't have to dig into pockets to access knife. Chris' original idea was that the lanyard sticking up from the pocket helped hold the knife vertically, didn't show the knife, and could easily be pulled out with the ring and pinkie fingers. Funny how our carry ideas evolve.

The safety pin idea has been instrumental to my carry for a long time now, so thank you for sharing it! I always carry clipless, vertical in my pocket with CRK lanyard to help extraction. It’s a perfect system for me. Knife isn’t visible, 100% secure and easily accessible.

I recall the thread I learned about this and the guy who shared it had been doing it for years, even left the safety pin in when he washed his pants, and only ever had one come open. I haven’t had one open yet, not to say I don’t worry a little about it.

I may eventually run a few stitches. My wife said she could do it in a minute on the sewing machine.
Not related, but sorta

When I was a little kid, we'd get our once a year new clothes for school..... Back then JC Penny's had all their shirts and slacks folded and Pinned.

Many a time, Screaming was heard form the bathroom when we got home to try on all the new duds......Somehow a few pins wouldn't get found until it was too late.
an enthusiastic arm or leg being Shoved into the sleeve or leg hard and deep....... OUCH!
