Friday morning and some camp cooking

Hi all,

Rocky wolf if you ever can come down please do so.

Yea mistwalker I just bacon cooking over a fire too lol

Loosearrow, lol sorry about that lol. Hey Semper Fi back at ya :D

oh yea I tell ya if you get a chance do the bannock up on the stove in your kitchen and then see what it like to make bread in a pan, then give it a try over the fire. Watch it real close over the fire to. It is easy to burn some lol
As to coffee I do not like the taste but love the smell lol. Yea I love hot tea. coco an apple cider. Where are you at in Kansas?
I am about 70 miles southwest of Lincoln Ne. Near a little Town called Diller.

LOL Doc thanks. Yea I hear growing up is not any fun lol.

Thanks again all and take care,

Bryan

6shooter, sure it is. if I am doing this just form me.
1 cup of flower
1 to 2 table spoons sugar. I use evaporated cane juice. it is non bleached and just more like true sugar. I really like it.
1 teaspoon of baking powder NOT baking soda
A pinch of salt and I mean just a 2 finger pinch. that is what I use anyways.
A hand full of cranberries or rasins what ever other small fruit you like.
I have not put any nuts in mine yet but that is a option too.

1 table spoon of butter I like a little extra butter flavor in my bannock.
and then you will need 1/8 of a cup of water or so.

mix all the dry ingredents together.

Then when you get to your campfire or on your stove where ever you want cook it at.
Heat the pan up some to mix up the better and water not freaking boiling lol. just heat it up so the butter belts in with the water.
Then mix in the dry ingredents in with the water and butter in the same pan and then once it is all doughy and mixed up just spread it out in the same pan like in the pic I posted.

Nice, I like that recipe Bryan. Except for the butter, just keep it in a ziploc bag and carry it around. I've heard of mixing the ingredients and then wrapping the dough around a green stick to cook it over the fire. Never tried it myself, but it sounds like a fun way to do it.

I will have to try the bannock for breakfast. Try it out on the grandkids. Edgerton, Kansas. Not too far from Olathe.

6 shooter, Ok what do not like about the butter lol ? I use smart balance myself. Yes you can wrap the dough around green stick and roast it over the coals just fine. I was with a fellow Marine Years ago that did that. I thought it was pretty cool, but I did not think to ask about the ingredients and stuff at that time lol. I know it

I have plans to try that this week. I was just reading in a book called
CAMPING in the old style By David Wescott on page 151 there is a rescipe called twisters. It is a recipe for cooking bread on a stick.

Hi Mick, lol yea that bacon is just so awesome smelling lol. YES You are very welcome to stop in for Breakfast if you get over this way :D. heck lunch too if you want lol.

Loosearrow I am going to look at the map now lol to see where you are at.
Yea give it a try it is neat to make up and taste so dang good too lol.

Take care

Bryan

good pics and not a bad menu for a camp meal either.

I must be the last person on earth that just uses matches to start fires. :D

Haha no no, I have no problem with the butter. I was just saying you could keep all the dry ingredients in a ziploc on your trip, making it a rather handy food to take with you. You just couldn't keep the butter mixed in the bag.

Mannlicher, thanks. It tasted pretty good lol. Oh I bet there are others that use matches too lol. A couple of weeks back I use a lighter just to see if I could still light a fire that way lol.

6 shooter, lol Ok I see what you mean now lol.

Take care all,

Bryan

Bryan,

Someone else linked to this post this morning because of the bannock bread recipe.

I just wanted to tell you, this is one of the best posts I've seen in a long time, again. :)

I missed this before. Glad it came back up. Yum, I need to get outdoors today. Well, for something other than work.
