Friendly folder for VERY liberal academic office?

I work in a highly liberal, always politically correct educational academic research firm and was wondering if you guys think the small Sebenza would be acceptable? I am seriously thinking about ordering a small, left handed carbon fiber
Sebenza. Needless to say, I must keep my more conservative political views to myself here! I currently carry a Spyderco Dragonfly which I have had no issues with, but I am looking for a more higher end
offfice friendly knife now.

I also understand from Chris Reeves that the small left handed CF Sebenza is on a 3 month backorder for more stock. Unless anyone here knows of a CR dealer that may have one available?? I definitely want a left handed version since I am left handed only.

Thanks

I can only share my experience, but the university I went to was very liberal, and most people, teachers included, had no problems with the small knives I carried. I didn't pull them out in class every day or anything, but sometimes I had to use them. I guess they figure I was mature enough to be given the benefit of the doubt, and I hope your colleagues will extend you the same courtesy.

A lot of my teachers carried small ones as well and most were quite liberal.

Again, just my one example which may or may not be helpful at all since I don't know your colleagues or their views on knives as "weapons" automatically or as "useful tools."

Redlynx,
Thanks for your thoughts. I cant imagine the small Sebenza will be an issue, but I just want to hear others thoughts.

Since you are the only one that knows these individuals and all the facets of the environment personally, the decision is ultimately yours. That said, when you say VERY Liberal, in which VERY to me implies EXTREME, I think SAK or classic slip joint as an argument involving Boy Scouts can be made if confronted.

A small Sebenza, while branded "small" by nomenclature, does not strike me as VERY Liberal friendly. Then again, I'm a Liberalaphobe, so I could be way off.

Well, im employed where Albert Einstein did most of his research. I am surrounded by eggheads that lean very liberal.

Well, it sounds like a job you probably worked very hard to get, so that would be my first consideration. I would leave the cool stuff at home and go with a Leatherman Micra on a key chain.

Asking is the best bet.

As for your generalizations about liberals and conservatives, the same holds true here in General....keep your political views to yourself.

That said, I work in surrounded by former elementary school teachers, and use my knife quite often. No one has ever cared. If the small Sebenza you are looking at is similar in size and subtlety to the Dragonfly....and you don't go "deploying" it all the time...I'd guess you would be fine.

I would never ask. Rather, review the terms of your employment, employee handbook, or whatever was provided to you when you were hired, and abide by those terms.

Even if a knife is permitted, I would not recommend this one...

I say go for it. It isn't that big at all. It is classy IMO. I think you'll be fine

That's what I would do ^

I know we all have our "horror" stories of knife sheeple but, in my experience, no matter what the political leanings of we or our colleagues, it's the person using the knife and how they are perceived that makes all the difference. When I was student teaching at the local high school I often had an Opinel #10, not small by most standards. No one cared, because they knew there was no reason to be alarmed about me. Just my personal experience.

I only EDC this in my volunteer night job as... Kabuki-Man.

I work in a traditional office setting. Most people, especially younger people, consider carrying a knife of any size and shape somewhat strange. I rarely use knives at the office for this reason, and generally use them only when others are not around.

Despite this, my small CF Insingo Sebenza 21 is the best "small EDC" I have ever owned, by a very wide margin. The fit and finish are incredible. The blade shape and functionality is amazing, especially considering the weight. The blade shape makes it function like a 3.5" blade and lends to very controlled cutting.
