Friendly folder for VERY liberal academic office?

Sorry if that's what it sounded like what I was doing, I didn't mean to. I just thought we could avoid "nutty fruitcake" labels.

I had hoped to be granted a pass for that jab due to the fact that I do tend to tack to the Left... (And I recently had to deal with a crazy knee-jerk neighbor.) I apologize for impugning my comrades...

It's no big deal to me man. I'm middle road myself. I just know it's the type of thing that gets infractions and thread locks. Just don't want that to happen to you.

Thank you, RedLynx. (I will keep your in admonition mind.) I think that we should ultimately keep in mind our solidarity with an affinity for knives. Anyway, I think that a gentleman's folder is the best answer to the inquiry.

I agree, OP should grab something like a Case Sodbuster... it isn't tactical, cool, fancy, high-end or one of a kind ooh and ahh type knife. It's just a small, efficient working tool. Can't go wrong there.

A silly question for the OP:

Is there any specific intended use for the knife?

OP, I happen to work across the street from where AE did his research and I carry in Gerber, Kershaw, and Benchmade whenever the fancy strikes me. There is now a policy against any type of "weapon", but there isn't anyone checking my scrubs waistband. Just picked up a Benchmade Axis Flipper today that I'm sure will grace the halls at some point!

As a few have shown pictures of, there *are* cool, fancy, high end, one of a kind ooh and ahh gentleman's folders.

Love me a Case Sodbuster though.

I had a neat ~2.6" bladed K.R. Johnson Sodbuster in CPM 154 and sold it. It was excellent. Now I wish I had it back again.
Perfect knife for the occasion. Everyone back to friendly now...we hope.

It's late in the thread but I suggest anything with clean, round lines, silver blade, wood scales. If it doesn't have wood scales get some made?

Coworker was struggling w/her shrink-wrapped nuke-a-bowl meal in the kitchen today. I opened the clip point and handed over my wood-slabbed Buck stokman, 3.25" long. She didn't blink, and went to town on that wrapper, which was causing her frustration. Thanked me for the assist. :)

Getchyoself a Mnandi, chief.

How you like them apples?

(To clarify: I just watched Good Will Hunting and am referencing the movie, not making condescending derogatory remarks about Native American peoples.)

Good luck!

Wow...I never expected this post to turn political, in ANY way. Let me say that in the 19 years that I have been employed here, there has never been any mention about knifes as weapons or prohibited on the campus. Pocket knives are acceptable here.
With that said, I am still considering the small Left Handed Sebenza, Mnandi or the Fallkniven TK series.

I picked up a Mnandi for similar reasons as your initial question. I used to carry a small SAK or a very small case at my last job. Leatherman Micra could also be an option.

I work in a highly liberal, always politically correct educational academic research firm and was wondering if you guys think the small Sebenza would be acceptable? I am seriously thinking about ordering a small, left handed carbon fiber
Sebenza. Needless to say, I must keep my more conservative political views to myself here! I currently carry a Spyderco Dragonfly which I have had no issues with, but I am looking for a more higher end
offfice friendly knife now.

I also understand from Chris Reeves that the small left handed CF Sebenza is on a 3 month backorder for more stock. Unless anyone here knows of a CR dealer that may have one available?? I definitely want a left handed version since I am left handed only.

Thanks

I go with traditional folders at my university. I have yet to have a single issue. Keep it small enough so it isn't seen unless in use and don't play with it unless your actually using it. A small Sabenza may be fine but I personally would go with something without a pocket clip. Perhaps a GEC #15 and pair it with a Victoinox Cadet. That's my current set up for school and it works perfect. After all, there isn't a whole lot you will need it for at school anyways. When something does come up that you need a knife (at least for me) a "small" knife is more then enough to get the job done.

Huh? You brought up politics in your first post.

Nobody will freak over a Peanut... A very capable little companion all out of proportion to it's 2.75" (closed) size.
