From Billet to Sheet - Crucible CPM-S35vn hot rolling at Niagara Specialty Metals

Great post thank you Mathew and Niagara for the men at work video.Really an eye opener I think a lot of us take our
great blade steels for granted,I know I sometimes do.

Thank you Matt and Niagara Specialty Metals! Very cool info, pics, and video. Snowflakes look like they're falling UP in that first pic!

That was very entertaining and informative. Thanks, and I'll not complain to myself anymore about the cost of flat stock.

So each process they do is pretty quick to the next. What happens if one of the machines fail in the process? Would the abrubt cooling of the piece effect the process? Would they have to reheat and sort of start over?

Hi Colu41,
If there is a mill breakdown the material in the furnace is slow cooled, descaled and then rolled to gauge at a later date. Anything that has already been rolled will go into one of our annealing furnaces for a full anneal.
