From China With Love!

It would have to be this one, though being the only Chinese knife in my collection it's not much of a contest.

What's the practicality? I love cutting tomatoes with a Ninja dagger...

Just because I can.:D

Hi,

I have several of the China Bucks too. They are great users. My 371 is a tank of a Stockman.

A fewyears back Fenix lights offered a bonus knife with purchase of certain models of their LED lights.
The knife I received was a smaller , spitting image of the Buck Strider 880. If one could dismiss the fact that it was a total knockoff , it was a really well made knife. The only reason I got rid of it was because the copy factor left me feeling guilty. :D

I think it is verysafe to say that China can make high quality knives if they set their minds to it.

I would like to see these Chinese manufacturers making quality copies of American designs put their own designs into action , it would benfit all in the long run.

All that said , my Kershaw Chill is a fine , lightwieght flipper , one of go-to knives when I dont feel like carrying a small brick :)

That Northshore is a great knife.I thought mine was stamped Taiwan.I dont have it any longer so i cant check.Buck made real nice traditional folders there in China.I think they took so much heat for it,they've stopped.

I have one and it is marked "Taiwan"

Thanks for the pics. I've also been extremely surprised by the quality of Sanrenmu knives.

p.s. Not to hijack the thread, but how do you like model with the grey/black micarta (3rd from left) and the small red G-10 model (2nd from right)? I was thinking of getting them... and maybe the Ganzo with the uncoated blade, too!

Those Sanrenmus look like straight up ripoffs. That aint right. If they are so good, they should build their own designs.

A sad fate but I really like the white smooth bone knives that Rough Rider put out, especially the Rigger knife. Same with the U.S. Classic white smooth bones. The look nice and work well for the price. I'm guessing in 30 years, if I don't use 'em too much they'll be worth almost as much as I paid for them but I don't care, I like 'em... Stop laughing.

The micarta one is built really well. It has thick liners, no pocket clip, bronze/teflon washers, and the micarta is easy to grip due to the grooved texture. The little red one is pretty nice also. It is very light and small, but you can get a decent grip on it because of the large choil area that allows for an extra finger.

I like that uncoated Ganzo a lot more than the other one. It is a really beefy knive and the blade is very thick, like 4mm. It is just a solid knife.

None of them are exact copies, but many are a little too close I think. I agree, they need more original designs. However, I do not think that all of these are copies of other knives. Hell, maybe they are and I just do not recognize them... :o Either way, I sure do like them.

Benchmade HK 14205

 Damn!!! That Ganzo (not a Sanrenmu) is an exact copy of that knife. Wow, thats really not cool.

The 710 is similar to a Sebenza, 723 = Buck 327, and that one with the axis lock and opening hole looks kind of like a Benchmade, but are there any others that I don't recognize?

On topic, I am a fan of the Rough Rider and Colt slipjoints also. They are great for cheap knives in traditional patterns. They are what got me hooked on knives. I couldn't afford to buy all kinds of patterns in Case knives, so I bought them in Rough Riders and figured out what I liked. Then, I bought a couple Case knives!

the srm folders are surprisingly well fitted.
or at least the qc is.
from what i've handled, nothing rattles.
some might look like well known copies, but if laid side by side for a comparison - most srm folders are at least a third smaller than any of the originals should anyone care to compare...
srm folders are actually quite pc so far as blade length is concerned!
from what i gather, it is fairly common for a mainland comrade to carry such knives for fruit slicing.
and srm being a domestic mainland chinese brand knows just how to keep the masses happy with style and reliability at an affordable price.

well, i picked up a Schrade PH1 - the pro hunter. i love it, it is the newer chinese version. i do like it and use it in the woods, around the camp, and even out in the yard.

I rather like the Benchmade Vex. It's cheap, sharpens easily, keeps an alright edge, and is very overbuilt. I hammered on mine a bunch and abused the crap out of it and it worked perfectly.
