From Russia with Love

What is the purpose of these overprocessed pictures?

What is the purpose of collecting knives when simple cutting chores can be adequately handled by a scissors and a boxcutter?

We very quickly find ourselves in the realm of philosophy, when we ask these kinds of questions.

It could be that Birdave is simply enamored with a certain image filter or series of processing steps.

It's possible that they believe these low-contrast images stand as a challenge to the rich hues of some other members photos, inviting the viewer to enter into a dialogue about how color and background influence our feelings about a photo or an object.

Maybe it's a "signature style" kind of thing, intended to make their photos unique from the rest of our persistent attempts to capture that "golden hour" light in our knife photos, while avoiding ugly glare from the (very} shiny surface of a blade.

We may never know.

There are knives made as art knives.
I view knives as art (as well as tools).
I've been interested in knives since I was a kid and that was a Long time ago.
Whether it's a custom, automatic, mid-tech, production, fixed blade or folder, I'm intrigued by the styles, lines and textures of/on knives.
Hence, my photos and manipulation of those photos.
