Could be that Biryukov is using Torx Plus instead of Torx now.

As an example, a T8 driver will fit into an IP8 socket--Inside Plus is the Torx Plus designation--but feel sloppy while the same size IP driver will not go into a regular T socket of the same number.

On the other hand, some cheaper screws can have socket heads machined outside of standard tolerances.

Checking my Biryukovs for any Torx-style screws, only my #9 liner lock has any of that type fasteners, attaching the scales, while my other two--frame locks both--have only his proprietary 3 lobe pattern fasteners. The #9's scale screws are regular T8's, and a good fit at that, but I believe that knife to be one of his very early folding models.
Mine has T6 scales and clip screws, a T8 or TP8 pivot screw, and then a proprietary fastener on one side of the rear of the knife.

Interesting, mine did not come with that. The paperwork or the tool.

Worth trying a TP8 (IP8) if the T8 is sloppy. Looking at your knife here and at BTS, I'm wondering--is that Torx socket cut into the custom pivot or is it a screw run through it?

Definitely a socket, and not a screw.

I haven’t yet disassembled it, but I plan on doing it over the weekend.

The red is also beautiful. TBH, I had a hard time choosing between the two colors. I will say this, the action is as smooth as butter.
Did you ever disassemble it?

I was fidgeting with mine tonight and all of a sudden the action stiffened. The pivot was moving with the blade. I fiddled with it (IP7 driver) and the action is still a little tight, but pivot no longer moves. Strange. Still flips fine, but halfway closed there's a hangup, where it's tighter than the rest of the way.

Here's one I don't recall having posted in this thread, which I was glad to find still alive when searching for something related to the Biryukov I carried today. As birdave birdave mentioned a page back, CKF has a lot of their milling subbed out to Chinese firms, but their knives are finished and assembled in Moscow. They are a Russian company and their designs originate there as well, so they certainly strike me as a fit here.

For user-type folders, the Brutalica Tsarap has been a real workhorse for me. They are pretty heavy, but the large Wharncliffe blade allows you to pinch up on the blade for fine work, and they have been great knives while finishing the interior on my remote cabin. Lock is secure and the D2 takes and holds an edge quite well. I have 2 of them. I also like the Ponomar which is a nice edc and is large enough to manage while wearing winter gloves. I would like to get a DED blade sometime.

Agree! I have and have carried mine since 2019. We still have a few Orange left in stock.
