So I was hoping to get some input from fellow members who have ordered knives internationally, when the knife left the country of origin, and has not arrived in the destination country, did you receive any tracking notices from the countries it traveled through? I ordered a knife from Russia a couple weeks back (a ZT) and the seller was awesome, informative and quick to respond to any questions I had. I got a tracking number which showed me the knife's progress through various Russian cities and at its last stop it went international. And that's the last of the updates. On the US side post office says it's still expecting it, and the Russian side says it's left Russia. I know international shipping can take a while so I'm not worried about that. I guess my only concern is I was expecting updates from whatever countries it was traveling through in the interim. Is this typical? What are others experiences wit ordering a knife internationally?

International tracking tends to be very spotty and vague until it reaches the US. I wouldn't worry just yet.

Good to know. It's my first time ordering international, so I'm trying not to have expectations. Actually have another ZT (0392bwbrz) coming in from Florida. Saw it was at my post office yesterday, called them to ask them to hold the knife so I could pick it up in person. Was informed that it was too late as it was already on the truck, but it would definitely be there yesterday. Surprise never came! Ugh, decided to check on my Russian one to take my mind off of it and noticed the lack of new updates, hence this thread.

Yeah i just sold one to an apo address, and i could track it through the states. Then it didnt do anything for about a week, then the tracking said it was delivered out of nowhere. So by the time you see it moving again, it might be at your door.

That's the worst... Sorry, but I did lol, cuz I've been there.
Me too, that's why I called them telling them not to bother trying to deliver it, I'd pick it up myself. I suppose there will something to look forward to Monday at least.

May I present a theory?

Schrödinger's knife:

When a knife encounters US Customs, it enters in a physical state. Since you can't physically see the knife, it exists in a theoretical sense, and may or may not exist in a physical sense, therefore existing in a state of quantum juxtaposition. During this time, nobody knows if your knife is really there, or if it's just a figment of your imagination.

Granted that you have the patience of a saint, the sun, moon, and stars will align in harmony thus allowing your knife leave its quantum state and exist in a physical state. Your imagination will then accept this physical state of knifedom and allow you to enjoy its cunning craftsmanship.

Or, someone from customs stole your knife:D

My post office served the American Museum of Natural History. We got many inquiries on where their packages were and when we would deliver them. Since so many specimens came from overseas, it was usually a customs problem. We had no information on the mailstream at that point.

Blues bender, I'm much more fond of your first theory then I am of your second ;). Esav as far as the Russian ZT I'm on board with what your saying, I'm sure you're right, it's either not in the US or its in customs and usps hands are clean...as far as the Florida one goes... like I said, I'm sure I'll be thrilled monday.

I've recently ordered some stuff from Russia and Croatia. Croatia was pretty fast. Like two weeks from them dropping it at their post office to reaching my doorstep. No tracking though.

Another package from Croatia was 10 days total.

The packages from Russia were a little different. Both times tracking was provided and quickly made it to Russian customs. The first package sat with russian customs for over a week then it showed exported and nothing else until it arrived a couple of weeks later unopened.

The second package quickly hit russian customs, stayed with them about 2 days, then exported. About week later it showed it was stuck at JFK airport and then nothing until it showed up at my door.

I have another package coming. It moved quickly, about 2 weeks, from them to JFK. That's the last I've heard of it since. It was shipped on February 2nd.

All have arrived unopened and in good shape. No crushing or other signs of abuse. But no, none of those tracking numbers ever showed moving through separate countries.

I've had two knives shipped to me from Russia. The first one showed up, and the second one never did. Neither could be tracked once they left Russia, even the one that was delivered. It also took seven weeks to arrive.

It depends on if the country in question's tracking system is linked with that of the destination. For example, I can track USPS right to my door in almost real time (including the occasional movement through Japan). My guess is that the Russian system in not linked to the USPS, but you never know.

Usps and ems are somewhat linked. If I put the ems tracking number into the usps tracking system I get a couple reports on its movements, but you definitely get a more detailed list directly from ems itself.

Bushcraft Forever, I hope that doesn't happen. One of these 0392s is going to be part of a wedding present for a friend. I suppose if one of them doesn't show up, I'll give him the one that does show up... hopefully there will be one for both of us however...

..... I guess what I am saying is that once it leaves Russia it is no longer being scanned by the Russian postal system so the level of connection (electronic systems wise) between the postal carrier in possession of the package and the Russian system will dictate the amount of tracking information you receive. For example, I can track my packages from the US right to my local PO (I have PO Box) and receive notification of my own collection in almost real time via the USPS website and USPS generated emails. Clearly AustPost and USPS have a working electronic link for tracking.

Ahh, gotcha. That seems about right. Overall I feel good that it will arrive, would just be nice to know what neck of the international woods it's knocking around in, or if it is indeed hanging out in us customs somewhere.

Mine was sent via Russia Post, and was never trackable using the USPS which is who delivered the one I received. The second was sent the same way, but never received. The second was a trade, and needless to say I was out a knife. I do not recommend any out of country trading as there is zero recourse if you do not receive the item or the person goes silent.

Any chance they are working on this theory at the LHC? Or are the US customs photons interfering with detection? I suppose they could still be working on their useless boson detection instead of more useful theories like yours.

..... did you try to track it on the Russian Postal Website ? I can't track my packages out of the US on the AusPost site, I use the site from whomever is the originating carrier (Royal mail, Hong Kong Post etc), I would not expect the non-originating carrier to manage the tracking. That said in some places it is possible.
