From the Volcanos of Nicaragua

MOUNT DOOM!!!

Burt. That looks like way too cool of a trip.

This is a first I've heard of missionary doctors, nurses, pilots etc. This is the first time I've heard of a missionary blacksmith.

Thanks for sharing.

This was such a fun project. Burt and I had a blast going back and forth between forging the dragon and forging the blade. All this peppered with roasting sweetcorn over the forge, gang hammering and eating iguana. What an honor it was to be able to collaborate with Burt on this knife. Living here in Nicaragua, it's rare for me to be able to work with people as talented as Burt Foster (and Jason Knight a couple years ago), so when I get the opportunity I am thrilled to the core. This Dragon blade was an absolute blast but it was just a portion of all that went on while Burt was here. I'll let Burt tell about those things when he gets a chance. For now I hope you enjoy the pics we've posted so far and that you'll stop back for a picture of the finished piece. Surely it is still tucked inside Burt's luggage as he is on his way home. I hope he didn't chew through the bindings!!

Mike

Thanks for the exciting build Burt! You'll remember this knife forever. A real treat for me.

That knife looks pretty wicked nice job.

Hey Guys,
Stay tuned. Burt has the finished piece with him in Virginia and I'm sure he'll be taking one of his Fosterific photos to show you all very shortly. I can't wait to see the myself.
Mike

Yeah, pics coming, but Mike and i decided that this piece will just not work in a zippered case, and needs a display stand suitable for an ancient reptile. I'm working out a few ideas, so stay tuned....

I was thinking this piece would really need a stand. Can't wait to see it.

Ok, she's finally done. Mike and I had talked briefly about the knife needing a stand, as such an imposing creature was not meant to live in a zippered case. The logical choice was a lava rock from the mount of it's origin, but alas, we're fresh out of lava rocks in Southwest Virginia. Yesterday, and box showed up from Nicaragua with a couple lava rocks stolen from the rim of the volcano itself, and i couldn't wait, so i went to work adding just enough to the rock to connect the two pieces as one.

So here's the final piece. We're going to be offering the piece for sale, but since I'm not supposed to be selling knives here, I'll say no more. There will be more info on my web site later today.

I hope you all had fun watching this come together. I know Mike and I had a blast making it! Thanks Mike for a great time, and for coming up with the inspiration for one of the most fun knives I've made in a long time!

that is just SO awesome!
