For consideration is a more rare early Gen 2 Spanto. What makes this extra special besides the glass-hydraulic action is the Sterile stonewash blade that has a bit of mirror going on. Believe the material is 20CV and Hinderer does this steel right. Been used and carried but looks like new with exception of a few minor marks on blade only evident in the right lighting. Has the best action of all Hinderers that crossed my path with near drop shut action and early lockup signifying a long life ahead. Nothing like the original Spanto in black G10. Comes with tactical peanuts and 2 upgraded blue anodized hardware packages. $475 Shipped

I believe gen 2 had r Hinderer on the blade as well?
Like you, I was also under the impression xm-18 gen 2 3.5" hinderer had stamp on the blade, but gen 2 3" did not. If that is correct, then this 3.5" is not gen 2, but I am still learning about Hinderer. I got my info from this bladeforums thread.

It can only be gen 3 or gen 4. Which side is the stop pin on the choil side ? If so then it’s gen 3 if it’s on the spine side it’s gen 4. Can you please email cwoodill92 at yahoo.com

Thanks for the info. I was definitely under the impression of gen 2 but it’s definitely either 3 or 4 or something weird . Hopefully he gets back to us

I'll leave it up to "the pros that know". My history of Hinderer, though not bad, isn't vast either. I know my 3" was Gen 2 and was all the same except for the blade stop pin being above the pocket clip mounted on the scale with a tiny screw. This blade stop pin is mounted higher internally which A) looks cleaner, B) doesn't collect as much dust/lint/debris, and C) removes the risk of loosing that tiny screw if disassembled. Thus it could be Gen 3 or 4?

What is it running on pb?

No sir it is not. Original teflon all the way. Smooth as glass in a surprising way being this is a robust and far from fragile knife yet feels like it is a finely honed instrument. There are still more than a few custom knife makers that use teflon washers and in my experience, they are every bit as good and better than PB's. They also don't develop that weird white crusted stuff (oxidization?) if immersed in water/liquid/mud etc. for a period of time that you have to sand off to make smooth again thus super easy clean up.
