Shaving isn't even a consideration. The first picture was taken 7 or 8 years ago in college. They second one was taken this fall with the daughter.

I had a beard when I was in Alaska, everytime I came home from 3 months in the wild my wife made me shave before she would touch me.

Beard = No Sex :mad:

So until sex is no longer important to me I will be beardless...
Sounds very familiar.
My girlfriends like the beard tho.:thumbup:

2 years ago, I (after MUCH nagging) shaved off a beard longer than the one in those pictures, because my GF at the time just would not stop whining about it....2 months later we broke up.

Never again, no way, no how, either they take me as I am, or move their butt on down the road.

A hard lesson there, my friend.

One thing I've learned about women, is don't let them make you a project. They change this and change that, and then leave you because "You're not the man I fell in love with anymore."

It was very common for California tribes to burn facial hair. Hair burning was a widely used form of maintenance in history....

Ouch. And smelly too.

interesting topic, I never really thought about it, I've never givin' a bread a chance, its just not really me, but I can't really see what difference it would have in the winter...

hey paleojoe,

Is that the same group that burned their pubic hair off?

I believe that was some Brazilian tribe....:D

Actually, tribes such as the Miwok would even pluck their beards. Ouch. I read somewhere that they would also shave with sharpened seashells, but was considered a painful process. They would singe hair with embers and rub then rub in charcoal to cover the scent. They would also cut with flint.

I think the notion that Native Americans grew scanty beards is misleading. I've seen old pics of Native tribes with nice, full growth.

Hell NO!!!!~

I live in Vermont and have had a well-trimmed beard for the past 40 years, shaving it off only twice for a total of about 6 months.

It insulates summer and winter, promoting cooling in hot weather and warmth in the chilly blast of winter.

Oh, and by the way, contrary to CD's experiences, I know that my beard was a contributing factor to my having years of plentiful sex rather than to preventing it.

If you toast it then it is hot - nice in winter. I like the wholegrain bread.

But back to the topic of beards:
I hate 'em! Within 3 days of not shaving the facial hair drives me mad. I also have no use for facial hair - it really doesn't get that cold where I live.

I tried one one winter, I found that it was more irritating than it was worth. I find a hood or a ski mask or wool scarf to be much more efficient. Also my brother has one and he looks seriously hippieish. Plus, last time I had one I looked dirty. I'll stick with clean shaven.

I had one for years. I still grow mine occasionally and have it for months. Mine is not 100% full, it's more 90% full. Like in those movies were Johny Depp has a real beard, but it's not 100% it's 90% especially around the throat beneath the chin.

By the way, beards can look very clean. Think Commander Riker from Star Trek. That's how I kept mine. It's easy to get it that way to maybe a month I guess.
It gets itchy after your first 7 days with no shave I know that. But deal with it for 2 or 3 weeks. Then, once you trim it, the itching goes away mostly. And it will look clean to. You can grow it longer to just keep it trimmed as you grow it to help with appearances and itching.

Stone age would have likely had a lodge for the people to retreat to during storms and food wouldn't have been a problem, because gathering takes place when the food is available (spring - fall). Don't remember ever having read that stone age man shaved, but it is possible. I do know that some plucked their beards as they grew in.
