Full Liner on a PARA 2 orange

Hey Members,

I came across an orange Para 2 at the Gun show in Ohio back in 2013. I have recently taken it apart for cleaning and the liner is not milled. In addition, the pivot and spacer is a bit different than all my currents PARA 2....It's very odd? It cannot be a FAKE, since those Chinese maker will not go to such extent. Also, the laser marking does not look black, more like an dark orange laser mark.

Have anyone can across this?

What's different about the pivot? It will be very very odd if that left the factory without the liners being milled. Pics as always will help.

I've never heard of it before, fakes are getting pretty good these days. We need pics!

I thought it was a fake also BUT.....they would not go to such extent as to compression lock. And this thing is really well built. Looks like one of the early para2...

Ok, let me take some pictures.

The pivot is smaller in diameter, therefore you cannot swap blade with current Para 2s.

Here is the picture of the knife. It has the S30V steel.

Here is the laser marking, notice it is not black but rather brownish orange.

Here is the full liner, no milling.

Compression lock....I've seen fakes Para 2 with liner lock but not compression lock yet.

Also the rear back spacer, the spacer have a flange that inserts into the liner. Current Para 2, it's flush. If you look close to below picture, you see how the liner arcs around the spacer, the G10 is also milled precisely like that....

99% sure it's Fake. I guess you didn't know that there are fakes with the "compression" lock. Need some more pics.

If its orange its supposed to have XHP unless it was swapped for S30v. It its S30v though its another redflag.

I'm pretty sure what you have there is a fake, the fakes have gotten very good but the tell tale signs are non milled liners, jimping not angled back on the top of the blade and also more of a v cut rather than u, pivot torx and scale torx that are the same size, and the g-10 will have a different texture. I'm sorry to say but by looking at those pics, it seems like you bought a fake. I'm also pretty sure the fake websites sell an orange PM2. Sorry for your luck, the best defense against purchasing fakes is to educate yourself on the minor differences between the fake n real thing. There are a couple videos out there that go over them, that's where I learned.

I'll take it apart and post some pictures...there's some features that makes it more difficult to be a fake. If you going to copy an item, why make it tougher to make?

Was there ever an orange S30V version? I am pretty sure the only orange was the XHP Cutlery Shoppe version. I know the Military has S30V versions with different handles, but all colored handles of PM2's have a different steel to my knowledge. I really really doubt any assembler would put non milled liners in a knife, and doubt that there are liners that would be finished enough to fit the G10 handles but not have the slots milled. The program that cuts the liners shape also cuts the milled out portion. I do believe I have see it done and the slots of many are milled first out from one big sheet, and the last cut is the outside edge cut to separate the metal from the sheet.

Okay, lots of things aren't adding up. The color of the etching (I can't see the color, but will take your word for it), the non-skeletonized liner, and mismatch of scale color and blade steel. Not enough data for me to form an opinion, but its looking sketchy. I think of the Cat model, for example, which has undergone its own metamorphosis: 2 or 3 clips flavors, no jimping then yes jimping, etc. - all during its short life. So its not impossible that this Para 2 came off the line like this, or that its a FrankenSpydie. It could be Mr. Sal's personal test model for all we know. I'll like to see him render an edict on this one. Either way, you have an interesting knife there.

Also, the laser marking does not look black, more like an dark orange laser mark.

Just as a data point, the etching on my orange and brown Para models looks dark orange to my eyeballs too. That would be quite a copy job if it were fake.

Ok Mods, please help me move this thread to FAKES & KNOCKOFFS....this thing is by FAR the scariest i've ever seen. I've seen a FAKE Millie and were quite impressed but this thing is crazy. I will post Side By Side with a real Para 2. Here is some pictures after taking this thing apart.

do you notice the different color of steel on both liners....the one above is call Spring Steel...for compression lock. The bottom just low carbon steel.

There is always the possibility of a Franken-knife - not uncommon with sprints. You (we) would need to see side by side comparisons - my visual memory doesn't extend to the details of the P2 (although I've had several apart for cleaning and lubrication). Whether it is a Frankenspydie or an outright fake is still up for grabs.
