VG-10 can do both , quite well , l find.
Which is why VG-10 has become my main steel for a lot of my USER blades. It was about 4 years ago in one of the older TACTICAL KNIVES magazines that one of their freelance writers went on record to say that VG-10 may be the best overall blade steel for common usage. Personally I've had better luck with VG-10 than I have with S30V and many other steels that Spyderco has used in the past. ATS-55 which is the blade steel that VG-10 succeeded in their Japan made line up wasn't bad steel at all and I have still have a few of my old ATS-55 folders>> and for Sal to say that VG-10 outperformed ATS-55 really caught my attention.
If Spyderco were to introduce or re-introduce some model in VG-10 you wouldn't hear me complain one bit.
