Thanks for all the positive responses guys!
Where abouts did you get the fatwood? I am right around the corner from Island lake and shoot there once in a while.
The trails between the Rustic cabins and Island Lake are full of red pine and scotch pines that are high resin producing trees. Look for old stumps on the forest floor and dig into them. Mistwalker has an excellent tutorial demonstrating how to locate fatwood stumps in this forum. Do a search on his thread using BF's search or the free google search engine.
Great post and awesome pictures! That Trangia stove looks like a sweet piece of gear
I've been using the burner for a few months now on loan from Magnussen and really like how the burner operates. When I went to buy my own, I opted to get one of the full kits rather than just the burner to see how it would work. It is more bulky than my nesting set-up, but I am very impressed with the 27 series stove set up as a unit. It has everything I need to supply cooking needs for myself and my wife on a weekend camping trip and it all stores into a respectable package. There is a lighter, hardened aluminum one that costs twice as much and shaves off about 30% of the weight. It wasn't worth the price difference for me, but it might be for long distance folks. If I am going to go long distance than I will just take the burner, a small cook stand and my nesting pots.
The base price of the unit cost me $60 and included the burner, bottom burner cover and top cover, tea pot, two sauce pots, frying pan and grabber. Works very well together. I used up about 10 oz of fuel for the entire weekend of cooking.
great pics, thats pretty cool, where everyone can come down and try stuff.
Also could that fruit be a passionfruit? not sure if they grow in that area, but it looks like a passionfruit to me
Thanks, I'll look up passionfruit. Good to know!
Thats great, but I'm a bit disappointed......I only live about 20 minutes away from Island Lake and would have come, but I didn't know!
Is there a site that has some times and places for these guys?
There is going to be a bushcrafter meeting there on the weekend of May 28-30th. I don't want to be accused of forum plugging, but there is another place with the word bushcraft and the word USA in the name that the group of folks who organize this belong to.
