Fun food to eat with your knife

My mom taught me that peas on the knife poem when I was about seven or so. She learned it from her mother.
A few weeks ago, at dinner, my 10 year old niece asked me if I wanted to hear a poem she just learned. After the first few words, we recited it together.

Litteraly every time I go to a steakhouse. Every time I go to Bob's Steakhouse with the work bros I have to explain how I am slicing my steak, and my friends are tearing. It always makes sense in the end when I slice my tomahawk right off the bone in one swipe after everyone else buzz saws theirs. Looks are priceless.
Agreed, I would have to have a steak to use mine.

Among other things mentioned in this thread, I’ve found a pocket knife pretty helpful for hacking through all the packaging in an MRE. Also cutting bread and spreading condiments.
I know I shouldn't miss those things but I kind of do. Trading, mixing concoctions to make something new, and pouring hot sauce over everything. And the jalapeno and the bacon cheese packs. Delightful.

From the time I was knee high to a grasshopper, I've always loved using a knife on watermelon. Not just cutting it with something huge, but sitting on the front porch and neatly slicing bite size pieces with a pocket knife. Nowadays, I do find it tremendously satisfying to cut a thick steak with a well sharpened knife. Before I had to quit eating stupidly (for myself) I used to enjoy cutting my candy bar into small pieces also.

As I sat down to dinner last night, I considered this thread. I have only recently learned of the wonders of blade re-grinding. Just a few days ago I picked up a Spyderco Tenacious for the sheer purpose of learning to re-grind the blade. I managed to get it from .022 down to .010. and put a hair whittling edge on it. I came home from work late last night and my wife plopped a massive T-bone steak in front of me. The level of satisfaction I derived from that sharp little blade gliding through that massive chunk of beef is beyond my simple comprehension, but boy, howdy! It sure was there!

Started carrying a EDC knife and my fruit consumption went to the roofs. Its just so much fun to eat a apple when slicing it. I slice 2-3 fruits each day just to get a excuse to use a knife 🤣

It got me thinking. What other kind of quick snacks/food can you eat just by cutting it straight up. Obviously processed meats like sausages, smoked meat, Jerky comes to mind and hard cheeses of all kinds.

Does anyone have other foods that they eat, just by cutting it straight of?

For those times when you want something quick without prepping, checking subway meny is a convenient way to explore fresh, ready-to-eat options that still give variety and flavor.
Slicing fruit with a knife definitely makes snacking more enjoyable, and it’s a simple way to eat healthier throughout the day. Apples, pears, and melons are great, but you can also add vegetables like cucumbers, carrots, or bell peppers for a fresh crunch. Hard cheeses, sausages, and smoked meats are also perfect since they slice easily and pair well with fruit. It’s a fun habit that makes everyday foods feel a little more special.

Last year I was elk hunting in Colorado and got hungry on the mountain. All I had was a can of Dinty Moore beef stew and my Hinderer. I had to open the can with the knife and scoop the stew in my mouth with the blade of the knife. I guess you had to be there to appreciate it.

When I was young I thought I'd be a hardass and stab an apple or a pear, yank it off the tree, and then eat it off the blade. These days, I find that certain packaging makes a lot of noise when you peel it apart to open it, but I use my knife so that my office colleagues can't tell that I'm having a snack.

I should probably eat fruit instead.
