Fun Friday Sale! CPK Classic, the 3" EDC, ground finish, Iron Wood

No one asked me, but since I opine any way, here's my take:

Everyone on this one off sale on the last fun Friday apart from the winner: ni1s, is truly SOL! The evil genius will perhaps be coming up with another method or may be more of the same for the other 24 or so, which are yet unspoken for.

:D
I get that only one was available in this sale. But.....there was a grey area that left one with the hope that ( up to 25) may have been up for grabs.

So, IN. Just in case:D

Wrath of B^2 in 3-2-1, because you dared answer a Q specifically directed at NTM. Gawd help your poor soul :D

Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist - it's difficult to tell what the plan is for the bunch of these you plan on releasing and when and where. Should all these "Ill take one" comments anticipate they are on an order list already, or is there some yet to be disclosed method for presenting them for sale? I wouldn't be asking, but have become somewhat confus-ed:)

There was only one knife for sale in this thread. They're all a little different, I'm not sure the best way to sell them. I'm considering just sticking them on eBay as "one penny no reserve" auctions. I would be curious to hear people's thoughts?

I'm kinda an eBay Ex-Purt! I would not recommend that :)

To add: do a batch of 5 fun Friday sale and set then do a lottery draw based on the number of claimants. Whoever wins, must not partake in the further sales of this model. Too much work? Yes, there's that additional hassle of the draw but you keep it in house here.

^^^Apparently, many others did not interpret the Sale Thread as being only 1 Available (me included-Confusing)! You could have sold 25 of them I believe by just stating what you usually state These are some pictures of what it doesn't look like: And then maybe adding-Patterns, grain and color will vary
Hope the UF's are not going to be offered this way, if so I will just stick to Pre-orders in the future.

I never read this as a sale for twenty five, or I damn sure would have posted in it sooner. When I opened the thread it was still on the first page, but since I was obviously not first for what I took to be a one knife sale, I didn't post. I also took it to mean that there are about 25 more of some kinda special EDC2s that will be available one at a time, a few at a time or all at once, that Nathan is yet unclear as to how to get rid of them.

Regardless, whatever becomes of them, I would like one, and am down for what ever method of selling them that makes that happen.

Sorry. It was a Fun Friday sale. 5:00 comes early on Friday and we were sipping beers and finishing out this knife. We were having a good time but maybe not wording good. Going back and re-reading the original post I can understand the confusion, I did't word good.

There is only one complete. The problem I have is sorting, grading and pricing the knives because there is quite a bit of variation in the wood, all the way from what I would consider to be exhibition grade to fairly plain to interesting but flawed. I was considering taking pictures of each as they're finished and posting them where people can view them and offer whatever they think they're worth (absolving me of any guilt or responsibility to price anything correctly myself, because it's difficult with something so subjective). Another option would be everybody pays the same price and it's the luck of the draw, but that will just about guarantee hurt feelings. Someone suggested Instagram. I'm not on Instagram but I could be.

I actually think that FCFS on very limited numbers will create more hurt feelings than luck of the draw. Speaking for myself, I'm relatively fast as compared to slow sloths like Tommy so on a run of about 10 or so units, it's almost a sure thing that I should land something but if I should lose out on a lotto system, it won't hurt my feelings and I don't think that should hurt the feelings on anyone who happens to be fair minded; after all it's the lotto.

Anywho, it seems to me that you're tempted by an auction style idea so if it's going to be IG based, please let those of us W/O an IG account know in advance and we will roll with whatever way which you decide to experiment with :)

No need to apologize Nathan, we are all just excited.

My two cents, which are worth half that, price them all the same at whatever you feel is the median price. Open up a sale like you always do and take the top 25. Then start at the top, number one picks, then number two and so on. If the butt hurts with what is left, they can pass, there will be plenty waiting in line. Myself, I would be very happy with number 25 as it will still be a very special and unique, hand ground EDC2, and wouldn't think twice about the other 24.

Sounds reasonable to me. :)

I’m glad I’m not the only one confused. This just shows the high level of interest and admiration of the work that goes into the making of these fine knives.

um, I noticed that you have a website...

I highly recommend setting it up so you can sell directly from it. You want people to go there anyway, why not invest in setting it up so it can serve you better, give you 100% control, and keep all your moneyz in your pocket? I had a web store a few years ago, and they are very easy to learn how to do. If I could do it, Jo definitely could do it- and then some! I used Cubecart, but I'm sure there are other options out there now

That is an excellent point Lorien. I had wondered in the past as to why the Carothers website was never polished up with all current and updated information. I do understand the time constraints but CPK is now at a far more sought after state as compared to a few years back when that website seems to have been put together.

How about like a fun Friday sale but more like a draw for whoever posts in the first 1 minute, 5 minute, or what ever timeframe you decide to pick? Gives a good number of people a chance. I’m sure however you decide to move them it will be good.

why give 20-30% of your profit to an online dealer when, for far less $ and other benefits too, you can build your own online store?

Yes, I am out of hours in the day. Maybe some day we'll hire someone...
