I mentioned that ...
A better indication of interest is to look at the bottom of the page and see how many times that auction has been viewed...Right now it's at 673...
That's a pretty well watched auction!!! I'd say there was *lots* of interest in a Custom 120...
I want to make it clear what I did. I placed a bid in that was barely above the existing top bid and later added some wiggle room. The third bid was in fact a snipe to add ten bucks to the second bid. As it turned out the last two bids were not necessary. The winning bid had actually been in place for about three or four hours if my memory is correct. What does this mean? Simply that Trax is correct that sniping is over rated. If you determine what the price is that you are willing to pay and place your bid accordingly, two things happen. You pay what you can live with as a fair price and two, you prevent yourself from entering a last minute emotional bid simply because someone else is willing to pay more. In this case, I think I paid a more than reasonable price for a really nice knife. I'm happy. I hope I didn't upset anyone who may have been bidding. I really had no idea who elsw was bidding. (until Trax chimed in)...but if you notice that michaelkerins was the last three bids, that means that somebody put in a bid that he topped)...

Mike, you out bid me by $2.50....LOL (my snipe was to low). IMHO the knife should have sold for 250+. However, some folksare saving their spending $$$$ for Post Falls
. Yes sir...you got a hell of a deal on the Joe H. custom fund raiser knife.

Assuming that your snipe bid was the top of your reasonable range, it would simply allow you to bid in absentia. You would still risk being beat, since an emotional bidding war would likely top your snipe anyway. I've had that happen to me on several occassions. My snipe never saw the light of day since the bidding went out of control way before my snipe ever got into play. Sniping also allows one to place a last minute bid and beat someone who is trying to win on the cheap.Mike and Trax, I'm not sure that I agree with you that sniping is over rated. And I will be the first to admit that I will stand up at a Sniper Anonymous meeting and state, "My name is Tin Sue, and I am a Sniper!!" I have lost very few bids on items that I really wanted when I am sniping, but I rarely win a bid when I am unable to place a last minute bid. And I think the reason for that, as you have corrected reasoned, is that someone else's emotions may have taken over at the last minute, and they then bid a number of times to get above my top bid. Had they not had that opportunity to bid several times, they would not never have exceeded by bid. But, so goes life on the bay!!
