Funny things non knife people say.

I love when people try to correct me about the knife I've had for years.

"Do you know what that knife is?"
"Yes. It's a xyz..."
"No, this is called abc..."

Really? I totally don't know what's in my pocket! Thank you for enlightening me!

I bought in my new purchase to show a co-worker and my boss picked it up off my desk and proceeded to slice into his thumb testing the edge. He said " hey man why did you bring in such a sharp knife" I started laughing hard and said because they don't sell them dull brand new genius":applouse:

My brother (knowing I'm a knife knut) once said to me " I've always wanted a really nice knife, like a Gerber."

One day I was out in public, I can't remember exactly where, and there was this guy with his two kids (very young, about 6 to 8 years old). I had to cut something so I pull out my key chain which has a SAK attached to it. One of the kids suddenly yells"HE'S GOT A KNIFE!" and has this look of shock on his face.

His dad just looks really embarrassed and takes the kid's hand and walks away without saying anything.

It makes me wonder what some parents teach their kids.

In my german class we had to do an impromptu presentation on something interesting in our pockets. For me it was either a SOG Aegis in digi-cam or a Leatherman Sidekick. I skipped over the Aegis and went for the Sidekick. As soon as I pulled it out, half the class just sort of gasped. Notable comments
"Oh my god."
"What is this crap?"
And I thought I was being sensitive to the non-knife people...

And about people running their finger on the blade, I'm just gonna let them do it. I mean, it's a knife. It is common sense for it to be sharp, so you shouldn't touch the blade. They're gonna have to learn from their mistakes

"*blank stare*...*
thats what i get lol..

I also had a friend who found a near mint Ti milli and he was going to sell it at a yard sale and threw it in a bin that said 5$.. I couldnt let him do it i just couldnt.. i made him put it back in his pocket and then explained a new one cost around 200$.. now he wants to keep it because he feels lie a "Rich guy" lol

And you didn't buy it?????:D

Things like this make me truly sad for our society.

When a MULTI TOOL is looked at as only a weapon, we may be past the point of no return.

I think they might have thought it was a butterfly knife. One of my coworkers has mistaken it for one before

Maybe I should not EDC? But then, I first seem my knives as tools and then as possible defensive uhm, tool as well....

I currently work in the corporate world and am seriously looking at alternative ways of of carry. When I was LEO en never cared much for the pocket clip, but got used to it and ease of access, especially for defensive purposes makes it great. But as I said, thinking of alternatives as it seems that people are better trained to ifentify a clip on a knive than at doing their work....

I don't ask a person with a tablet in their hand why they have pen in their pocket, or what they intend to do with a pen.... Why worry about my knive?

I am frank about the fact that I used to be a special unit LEO. This seems to make it more acceptable that I always have a knive to two at hand. The funny thing is that the bulk of people will jokes with it but then come and look me up, share their hobby with me and then ask sharpening advice or if I can sharpen their knive:)

"Your knife looks so sharp!"
"Are you a closet killer?"
"WTF DUDE" (When my friend saw my Large Espada)

Even as a knife guy when i first saw the large espada my first thought was "dassa hurtin knife" lol. Also when i showed my friend a picture of my cold steel bushman the first thing she said was "That looks like a day f:)cker upper" She understands that im not an axe murder and i explained the knife to her and we shared a good laugh :D

great posts, :)

i once have a conversation with this friend and i explained i always carried at least a knife and a multitool. i showed him my folder, it was a Spyderco Gayle Bradley. i told him why i like the steel, scales, and the overall ergos and f&f. and then he ask for the price. I honestly told him I bought the folder for around 130$ (and I explained if that's a real bargain given my country 's import tax policies not to mention the shipping cost) . he then said "that's too expensive for a knife, you might bought a box cutter and it also cut well if not better than this one."

I chuckled and asked, "then please tell me why do you spend your money for that bike (kawasaki ninja 250rr - it's about 5300us$) instead having something like this vespa of mine (was about 200US$) "

he replied "nah THAT's because a Kawasaki performs better than your old vespa. And I really like the design." then he realized something and start laughing..

Friends house. Yesterday during dinner.

Friend used his Ontario RAT-1 to scratch a scratch-off ticket.
Just gets done scratching it and his sister says:
"Is that illegal?"
"What, my knife?" Saying it like hes surprised.
"Yeah, 'cuz it flicks open"
He pushes it lightly halfway closed and stops, showing her that there's no springs and its not an auto.
"Nope." he said. "Just has thumbstuds."
"Just assisted" someone else says.
Now I speak up.
"Not assisted either. Assisted also has a spring in it too. Its just the way we flick it with the thumb stud."
"Oh"

At least we werent in public. We could have been interrogated when someone has a large knife and someone else loudly proclaims its illegal.

It makes me wonder what some parents teach their kids.

It's not so much the parents I don't think. With the broad implementation of zero tolerance policies at schools, where kids are expelled for having a SAK classic in their violin case to clean rosin off their strings...the kid's reactions are pretty reasonable.

After showing people some of my folders before I've had colourful responses to the fact that some are not stainless steel, basically one guy acted like I had handed him a piece of crap knife (it was a Spydie Gayle Bradley) because he was "unfamiliar" with CPM M4 and Spyderco in general; he really just didn't get it at all... It's readily evident that it is a high quality tool and I was put off by his response. I politely held back my feelings of wanting to slap him around a bit as I was trying to take the high road on that incident. Funny thing was, this guy had an old Buck/Strider Collab knife that he had shown me first and I complimented him on carrying a sweet blade! LOL! That's what I get for being nice. :foot:;)

It is always interesting to me how people react when you hand them a knife to show them when asked about what you carry etc., I've had some really positive reactions and some negative like the "It's illegal!" shouted out in public too... Lord knows why people feel compelled to get diarrhea of mouth and starting loudly spewing nonsense when you've openly handed over what they asked to see in the first place! Same goes for when sheeptards see someone pull out a SAK or multitool in public and lose their shite over it. Talk about having no self restraint. ;)

Good thing most of my friends are knife nuts!

Just shrug it off. One of my coworkers asked if my Skyline was a switchblade just because the flipper works so well

"How do you close this?"

My brother has a Phd in English Literture and two or three other degrees. He asked to borrow my Delica to open a small package. I watch him as he nearly slices into his hand. When done he looks at it in an attempt to close the blade. With 22+ years of "education" and tons of debt he had know idea how to close a simple lock back. He looked at me for help and I told him to look at the simple knife and try to figure it out. It took him a long while and he nearly cut himself again. He said that thing is dangerous. I said no - Ignorance is dangerous.
