Future Buck Collectors Club Offering: Brass 186 style

Nice looking stuff. It wouldn't be too difficult to put these together with #5X40TPI cap screws like the original 186's. All you need is a 5X40 tap, a tap drill, a clearance drill, and a counterbore.

Agreed.
However on the original 186 the blade pivots on the threads of the screw. They had the vintage (steel ?) bushings to counter wear. The fastners I use are a barrel nut style which gives the blade a round surface to pivot on which is more to my liking.

If the blade pivot bushing is properly clamped between the two sideplates, it can't spin around the the pivot screw. The blade should swing around the bushing, not the screw. When I make 186 Selectors, I clamp the slabbed bushing between the sideplates because if the bushing rotated around the pivot screw, the knife would not accept or relinquish blades. I agree that it is tough to clamp a pivot bushing with a #2X56TPI screw set, but the #5X40TPI screw anchored in the Ti sideplate does a yeoman job.

Thanks tiguy, thats good advise I may use in the future. Materials have already been ordered and I will carry on as planned but I'd like to try what you've described on a knife sometime. I've had good results with this type of fastener as I have used them on over 25 Buck 110's.

I would like to take a peek at the pivot hardware you described. I will probably see you at the Blade Show. If you want to make a 186 Selector, you need to steal a rocker from a regular Selector. Otherwise the spring will fall out when there is no blade in the handle.

It looks to be user serviceable, screws and not pins. So then would the blade be user replaceable?

I should note that these are essentially "Aftermarket Conversions" and are not warranted by Buck. I stand behind the quality of my knives, and will state in the packaging that any tampering will essentially void my "Warranty"
With a few basic tools, and some know how, the blades, can be changed, the pocket clip removed for cleaning etc. If you would like that done, I kindly suggest you send it to me.

I hope that by the time I have many of these knives roughed out and ready for finsih work, (late June) that I will be able to use Solar energy to do the finishing work. You can read more about it in my Hosted Knifemakers Forum linked on my Signature. This project is going to produce minimal waste :)

Im not sure what you mean by box mart x mass marketing Dave.
What year would that have been about?

Allow me to translate.

A few years ago at Christmas, Wal-Mart offered special boxed 110s with a special and unique stamp.

I think you understand the rest.

It looks like there's some nice workmanship going on in the pictures. Good process photos. I thought I had filled my yearly quota of special knife orders, but I may now have to reconsider...
