Future Buck Collectors Club Offering: Brass 186 style

Thanks guys. They are certainly keeping me busy! I'm more used to making 1 or 2 knives a week :)

I've just shipped the first 7, so since it is first come first served (unless you ordered a lefty) early orders will be getting one in about 3 weeks I'd assume.

Received mine today, #4 as indicated on the accompaning card. All in all I'm pretty happy. To be honest I was expecting it to be heavier than it is. Don't have a suitable scale but in the hand it actually feels lighter than a standard 110. Mine does have a small amount of side to side blade play when open and the edge needed a little work but that's no different than a few factory models I've received. After fondling it the last two hours or so I couldn't help but think that what it really needs to finish it off is a thumbstud. With that in mind I ordered one of the brass, clamp on models off the bay. Figured the brass would look good against the high polish blade and of course go with the brass frame. Originally my plan was for this to be a safe queen but with the looks, the feel, the clip, etc, it's just gotta see some pocket time.

Wish I had a camera but I gifted mine to my daughter and haven't settled on a replacement yet otherwise I'd post some pics. Would like to express my thanks to Jerad and BCCI for a really nice addition to my 110 collection. Well done!!

Badhammer, glad you like it. I hope everyone does. It has been a fun project for me so far. I weighed mine at 7.55 oz which puts it right around a stock 110. They are definately feasable for carry, and turn some heads as they are something different. However, they will tarnish and ding up easily I must warn. Also if dents (as occured to mine :) need to be sanded down and power buffed, this is a difficult process as the holes can cause streaking, and the knife must be fully dissasembled.

As for the side play, I thought I was sure to check all of them for that before they mailed and thought them to be perfect action. I do have to occasionally check the preload on my EDC using this hardware. I did not locktite any of the bolts by choice, as I have not had any issuses and prefer to be able to adjust my blade preload. I suspect a slight adjustment on the T6 blade pivot bolt will make it better. If not, send it to me and I will immediately.
I kindly suggest to all that you occasionally check your preload and all other screws, if using this knife.

This type of assembly is that the factory pivot is designed to allow some expansion of the brass pin, they come out of an assembled knife at .126-.129. My hardware is exactly .125 and stays that way. Therefore I have to use a ball hammer on each bushing to close it. If I close it too much, the walk and talk is no good. Not enough, and there's side play. Each knife goes together and comes apart many times. I thought making multiples would speed things up more than it has. Every knife is still an individual to me. I estimate about 5-6 hours into each of these knives.

I want to thank everyone who opted to buy one and supporting the BCCI and myself in sharing the love of knives.

On a side note taking Leroy's advice and putting my one of $50 1x30 belt sander up for sale after this project and investing nearly $2000 in a Bader III as I need one to produce better results faster.

Morning all. Just wanted to add that I completed my usual soap and hot water cleaning on this knife last night followed with a light lub with 3 in 1 and I believe the side to side play, which was minimal at best is just about gone. I still plan on giving it some pocket time but I have to admit, after handling it I just had to wipe it all down so it was completely clean and smudge free but then it looked so nice I just had to handle it some more, then of course I had to make it shiney again.

Both a curse and a pleasure I guess. With as many knives as I have and the fact that I usually have new stuff laying out for several days as I fondle them this is one of the first time I've seen my wife pick one up and admire it several times over the course of an evening, usually as I was coming back into the den after using the bathroom as that was about the only time last night it was out of my possession. Even though she's not really into blades like I am she was quite taken with the appearance of this one which, to me says a lot.

Thanks again Jerad for a really sweet blade.

I thought I'd share the difficulty in shaping the FG on these.
I've completed the first 8 which have been shipped. 7 more are expected to be done this week. The remainder will likely be 2-3 weeks after that. I still need a few blades to be shipped from the factory, so the last 6 will take the longest to receive. I'm not sure they are sold out yet but I know it's at least close.

Pretty impressive!

FWIW our daughter was over yesterday and got a look at this one after hearing about it from her mother. I was told, in no uncertian terms that this knife absolutely had to be left to her in my will. She's pretty much a Spyderco junkie, but this Buck really caught her eye. I made sure when she left it hadn't found it's way into her purse.

Hey Jerad,
S/N 6 has landed. Unwrapping that cloth left me speechless. Wow! Easy for me to say, but all that tedious drilling/cutting to shape the handles was worth it. Thanks for conceiving of this project and sharing with us.

I'm glad you guys are liking them!
Thanks to The Factory and The Club for letting me do this, and thanks to all that bought one.

Leroy has already put the idea in my head I/we should do something together in the future. I hope I get the chance!
I will need to finish my Camaro and get a better belt sander first, so look for another Club knife from me and/or Leroy in the future hopefully.
I appreciate the positive feedback!

Hey Jerad....are you getting close to shipping out the last batch yet?? I'm guessing one of those will be mine since I didn't order one until about a month ago.

Looking forward to one of these!!

Mark,
John received # 9-17 today and is shipping them out right away. The last 8 will take the longest. I still need parts from Buck for the last of them. Buck should be shipping them soon according to Joe. I hadn't ordered all 25 right away as I wasn't sure they would all sell. Hopefully yours was one of the 9 he got today. I suspect 4-6 more weeks for the third and final batch until I'm done and then transit time.
On a side note, my Bader III shipped today :) I hope to have it by next week. Should speed me up a little so the ETA may be cut down from that :)

Knives 18-25 are in the mail to The BCCI President John Foresman.
Anyone who has one on order should see it in about 2 weeks.
Thank you to all who purchased one. If anyone has pictures to post of theirs on display, I think that would be cool to see!
There's also a thread in my Hosted Knifemaker Forum to post pictures.

GREAT!! Looking forward to getting mine. Looks like you've done a fantastic job on these from the pics I've seen on your knifemakers forum.

Also, looking forward to meeting you in Post Falls next July.

How is that new grinder working our fer ya?? :)

Thanks Mark!
There's been good feedback, which is always nice. Chatting with the guys here has always been the most fun for me and certainly my favorite place to hang out of all the Forums. It's going to be neat putting a face and a voice to some screen names.
It'd be nice to get a few more visitors in my forum.
The Bader is incredible. I'm excited to see what it churns out.
Enjoy the knives guys!

The last of the knives shipped from The Club today. You guys should get them this week :)
