Hey all BFers! So I have a modest collection of 7-10 knives. Ranging from my Spyderco Dragonfly and Delica, to my Spyderco sprint PM2's and TSF Beast. A long with a Hogue and Sage 5, etc. I've been thinking about the MUDD for a little bit now as my "grail." The knife that would end my high-end knife purchases for the foreseeable future.

I was wondering if any of you have had a chance to fondle one of these bad guys? All of the details and specs seem perfect for me. Love the hawk lock as I have Kershaw RAM. From pics I guess the one gripe is have is that there doesn't seem to be much, if any, jimping.. but the rest seems ideal.

Anyone with praise or criticism or thoughts or recommendations? Was leaning towards ordering one w purple anodizations, thanks!

so is there no interest (not possible), or people just haven't gotten their hands on this piece yet?

or you guys just don't want to talk to me ?

Sure would be more interesting if you posted pics of what your considering. People might be able to offer a comparison for you about a better knife that you are not aware of.

It's a fairly new knife. If I am not mistaken, Millit Knives is doing the production and assembly (which, in my opinion, is a very good thing) of the Mudd Mid-Tech. I've seen the knife in CTS-XHP and Elmax.

Where it falls flat for me is the proprietary hardware and the blade length. I'd much prefer a compact 3 (so it could be a knife I can travel with without violating carry laws) or a 3.5.

I love my ZT Mudd knife, but it has developed a little bit of play. I think that the mid tech version looks awesome too, but I wonder if the lock setup will get play after a little use too? (Not complaining because I still like the knife.)

I've owned the ZT version, and handled the midtech version. Both are really cool, totally dig the lock and sealed pivot. There's a huge difference in size between the two though, the G&G Midtech is pretty small.

Have you taken it apart and cleaned the HAWK lock and put new grease in it? My RAM that is one of my favorite knives and also the cheapest I own, develops a little verticle play once or twice a year. I open it, clean it, grease it, and it goes away. I think the slide starts to bind and doesn't slide all the way forward so it doesn't tightly wedge against the blade pin and gets a little play.

I have a MUDD too and it is one of the few knives I've felt that is buttery smooth where the blade swings freely yet locks up with absolutely no discernable play in any direction. I would imagine any play would be due to something similar.

Just a thought.

you're right, sorry about that. Pics uploaded to top with all the colors available. Gold, bronze, regular ti, blue and my favorite, purple

Millit is doing the current mid-tech version.

What do you mean by this? G&G aren't doing it?

I'll have to try that. Another cool thing about them is that the big thumb discs let the knife be waved pretty easily too.

You might surprised how many knives folks like Millit and Halpern actually make pretty much from start to finish. In some cases, they operate under confidentiality agreements. That is why some knives are "fuzzed out' in the pictures on the Halpern website.

just looked them up, very cool! Thanks for the info

Millit's Facebook page shows a bit more of the stuff that they do that they are allowed to talk about. Some of these shops are now coming out with their own lines. Halpern has Tree Rivers and Larkin Precision, who are best known for grinding of blades, makes the Bradford line of fixed blades.
