The knife that would end my high-end knife purchases for the foreseeable future.

-Famous last words

I have a huge soft spot for Grant and Gavin Hawk. There is something so timeless and appreciative about a father and son duo who blend old school no-nonsense minimalism and new age eccentrics. Together they can make a mundane opening mechanism totally overcomplicated in it's own workings, but simple for the user; it's truly remarkable.

I say go for the MUDD so you can tell us how it is. Gorgeous knife meant for work, not show.

I'm on the wait/buy list. This is about double the $$ as any knife I own, so just wanted to get some feedback from you guys before making the plunge. Leaning towards the purple as I love carbon, titanium, w purple.

Still hoping to get some user feedback or reviews, maybe some pics!

I love my ZT 500 MUDD but it is a big, heavy knife, so it just not going for a walk with me, especially in light summer clothes. A smaller version would be fun to carry.

seems as though this one is the smaller version. From comparing a couple websites, it seems this one is about 2 oz lighter.. this blade's length is 3.25" as the ZT is 3-5/8", and the handle length is 4.5" compared to 5-1/8' for the ZT

I have owned one of the 10 original prototypes of this this knife after Gavin let me play with his 3yrs ago at Blade. It's a great knife right in the sweet spot for me. It's much smaller than my ZT 0500 Mudd and a little larger than the original custom MuDDs. It's the same size as a Kershaw ram another one of my favorites.

Mine does see pocket time and gets some use. It still looks almost new and have only needed to strop it. If you like the design you will not be disappointed. Not a lot like it out there for sure.
Check out the patent:

I have a Hawk Midtech MUDD and it is a solid well built knife. Fit and finish is superb and inspired me to order another knife
from Hawk knives.

safe to assume you think it's worth the price tag, in your opinion?

Did you get the titanium anodized?

I love my ZT0500 and it is well used with none of the blade play previously mentioned by others. I purchased it specifically as a heavy duty user and wish they would release the ZT0500 again. I like the size of the Midtech MUDD for off duty carry but it is way too fancy and way too expensive for a hard working pocket knife. If they made a basic version I would purchase one but at that price will pass. It does look like a very nice knife and hope you enjoy yours.

This looks like a precursor to the mid-tech version:

Even the locking mechanism is seated between the liner and scale, making it sealed against dust, dirt, water, mud, etc.

Very cool knife!
