I made a great choice, buying this knife. It is solid, beautifully constructed, perfectly comfortable fit in my hand. Gerry is great to deal with, quick easy communications and shipping. I highly recommend his work.

I totally agree. My first purchase on this forum was a GL Drew. Very impressed with the quality. Communication was great. Gerry went on hunting trip during the transaction and his wife Ruby responded quickly to my emails.

I can echo that. My first custom ever was one of Gerry's "little knives". Although I've bought others, the transaction with him and the quality he puts into his knives are what this forum is all about!:thumbup:

Good time for an update.

Although the knife is obviously heavy-duty, it is not clumsy, nor is the edge obtuse. I put it to work on a wide variety of foods and it sliced through everything almost effortlessly. For example, thick fresh carrots tend to pop apart with a thick blade, but rocking the big curved belly through three at a time just parted them in place. I rocked it through them like an ulu.

The blade is so wide, the high flat grind is quite narrow at the edge, and the width is also useful as a spatula, scooping up what's just been cut.

And one thing I especially like about high carbon steels is their patina. This one already is well down the road to looking like my mother's old kitchen knives. :)

G L Drew gets a huge Thumbs-Up from me too. Beautifully finished to a level far beyond the price would indicate.
