G-rated Gold membership?

New Posts does all new posts in every forum.

The feed on http://www.bladeforums.com (Home Page) excludes the W&C & other forums and shows the last 100 threads or so. Try using that.

There is no way for me to exclude certain forums from the New Posts search. None.

I don't know the answer to this, so I'm not being a wise guy, but does the Basic membership have a "new posts" function? If so, it excludes the porn area.

I switched my membership back to Basic to find out, but since I am a paid Gold member, all that changes by switching back to Basic is the identifier under my name.

thanks

Basic membership has the same search ability as Gold & above

So just to recap, the "new posts" function with the Basic Membership does show new posts from W&C, but not those of the "other forum", right? In other words, it is essentially g-rated with the exception of W&C?

And if so, that Basic version of "new posts" could not be made available with the other benefits of a Gold membership like the additional PMs and so forth?

The best bet for me will probably be not to renew my Gold membership next month, and just make do with 5 PMs and no selling ability. Be a freeloader, in other words. :)

- thanks again

Maybe some of the non-moderator folks here could PM those specific members and say, "Hey guys, look at this thread. Maybe, you didn't realize this problem. It would be better for everyone if you guys would voluntarily clean up -- and keep clean in the future -- your titles so that the moderators don't have to make a bunch of new rules you -- and many of the rest of us -- may not like."

Once you see a problem, fixing it yourself on your own terms often leads to an outcome you will like better than what might happen if you, instead, force the authorities to come in and fix the problem.

I have already stated in the WTF thread that I do not mind what is in the actual threads as long as the titles are family friendly. The person I was addressing at the time has been better about his titles since then, and I appreciate it.

No. Basic members (and all other paying members) still have access to the "other forum" and will still see posts from it in the "New Posts" listing. Using the home page will give you the same functionality without posts from W&C and it's subforum under any memberhip.

Powernoodle, try the above link. It works for your desired purposes, I just tested it.

Now, if someone can tell me how to navigate back and forth to that page from threads, I'll be work safe.

Changing your usergroup does not change you back to a registered user. You only look like one.

make a bookmark on your bookmark toolbar? (if you are using firefox)

That is another way to control what content you see- have bookmarks for your most viewed forums on your bookmark toolbar.

Well, I got an infraction in another thread for noting the hypocrisy of mods who encourage porn posts, but strictly interpret the no chatting rule in sales threads.

Its like being in Catholic school, where the nun gives you a bong, but slaps your wrist with a ruler if you don't sit up straight.

As for the infraction, I had a good chat with the infraction giver, and maybe I deserve it. Mea culpa. Trolling was not my intent, however.

But Spark, I want to strongly encourage you to consider making a change in this area. Either by getting rid of the porn altogether, or doing something to keep the thread titles segregated from the "new posts" link. I would vote for the former, but its not my board.

There are plenty of folks who agree with me, at least one mod and plenty of regular folks. :)

I am holding on to my $25 this year, as I see no good reason to help fund a porn site. JMO.

You're not funding a porn site. Really the only a few R+ rated threads pop up from time to time. People follow the forum rules, and in certain forums a little porn is acceptable.

This is a site primarily founded on knife knowledge, but the staff here do realize that there needs to be a few places to relax.

Hmmm, seems I've been outed by someone reading the moderators only section.
(Not sure if that's a good thing or not since it's supposed to be a private discussion area.)

I'll admit publicly however that I agree that it would be a good thing to have all "adult" or "explicit" type posts not show up in a listing of new posts since one's last visit.

Let those who wish to mine for this kind of stuff go to the appropriate sub-forums and open the threads there. Think of the extra excitement it'll add to their day. ;)

I feel more strongly about this issue for those with children who may inadvertently be exposed and also those who for moral or religious grounds find it offensive. (Neither of which apply to me personally.)
That said, I'd just as soon have folks who revel in such do so off site.

I'm sure he was referring to Gollnick, not you. See post #19 :)

As for the deliberately provactive explicit titles; these people obviously don't respect the concept of a community based forum.

That's what I decided to do...drop back from a Gold Membership to the Basic. I did have to find another place to sell my knives....but it works for me. The only problem I had was the thread titles.

Thanks,

Chris D. :D

Even if someone posts a porn picture, that is an individual choosing to do so. That does not mean "Bladeforums = porn site" If clicking on new posts offends you, stop doing it is your best bet. If you let your paid membership lapse, you will not have the search feature at all.

Dude, I'm sorry but maybe you just need to stay off the internet then.

I have kids too and I understand your point, but I can navigate here just fine by using this home screen. Just stay out of suspicious forums when the kids are around

Guys, it sounds like they've already decided to cut their noses off to spite their faces. I don't think they're interested in knowing that there are other alternatives available.

Thanks for that. Perhaps I spoke to soon.

Now you ruined my chance to ask powernoodle to repay our support by typing his posts in ordinary type instead of bold! (Maybe he thinks we can't hear him. :p)

Nope...I still have my nose..thank you ! :p. What Spark suggested works just fine. ;)

I fully acknowledge that I can essentially avoid the porn issue by going to the main page, manually looking for new posts and avoiding the porn forum. Its just the the "new posts" link is so dang easy to use and efficient that I hate to give it up. :) Maybe thats my best bet. Plus, I such a fuddy duddy that I think that people should have to make an extra effort to find the porn, rather than the rest of us having to make an extra effort to avoid it.

Regular font used in deference to Brother Blues.
