G-rated Gold membership?

To me the answer is simple and works quite well.

You don't want to see a particular post? = don't click on it.
You don't want to see the things posted in a particular forum? = Don't go in there.
You don't like the things that some people post?= Ignore function.
You don't want your children/grandchildren seeing whats on your computer screen? = go watch some T.V., read a book, go do someting with them.

As the software is built a certain way, which doesnt allow exclusion of certain forums for certain users, it it up to the user to use common sense and self control when browsing the forum. In the end it is not Sparks fault, nor anyones fault but the users

Maybe change the BladeForums.com logo/image in the left hand corner to link to www.bladeforums.com instead of the /forums/index.php

I like that idea, but I really like the big logo to bring me to the overall list of the subforums. Maybe he could have a different link somewhere to bring you to the .com homepage.

Ok, I messed around for a few hours and figured something out

Apparrently, I can create custom membership levels that prevent access to various forums, and even them showing up on the search results.

After 2-3 hours of trial and error and some hair pulling on my part, I've created a "PG" Platinum Membership level. If you purchase that subscription, W&C and the other forum will not show up on your search results, or in the forums listing at all for you, even if you hit "New Posts".

At least, that's what my testing shows. Who knows otherwise.

Anyhow. Try it and see what happens. Report bugs here.

I fully acknowledge that I can essentially avoid the porn issue by going to the main page, manually looking for new posts and avoiding the porn forum. Its just the the "new posts" link is so dang easy to use and efficient that I hate to give it up. :) Maybe thats my best bet. Plus, I such a fuddy duddy that I think that people should have to make an extra effort to find the porn, rather than the rest of us having to make an extra effort to avoid it.

Regular font used in deference to Brother Blues.

Duly noted, PN and appreciated (to boot).

And, fwiw, I agree with you that it would be better if things were set up in the manner you suggested above. (Unfortunately, from Spark's earlier reply in this thread it seems that that may not be doable for the software.)

EDITED TO ADD:

Seems that perhaps Spark did possibly find a workable remedy. Good on you, Spark!

Spark:

Thanks so much for giving this some effort and addressing our needs. I really appreciate it.

I signed up for the new flavor of PG Platinum membership, and changed my membership status on the user CP. My initial testing on Sunday morning, even after clearing out the cookies, still gives me the adult stuff both when I hit "new posts" and when I just look through the forums.

If you can get the kinks straightened out, this new membership will be awesome.

thanks again!

You had a gold membership and a PG Platinum membership activated. I deactivated your gold membership, try it again now.

ok, good to know I wasn't going crazy. I'll prorate your gold and get things set up on the back end

Congrats on coming up with an excellent resolution for those concerned, Spark.:cool:
