Does anyone in the Atlanta area need a dog?

I am leaving on the 8th for Basic training, and can't keep my apartment. She is a 6-yr old American Eskimo with no health problems.

Here is what About.com has to say about them:
http://dogs.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.akc.org/breeds/recbreeds/amesk.cfm

The American Eskimo Dog is intelligent, alert, and friendly, although slightly conservative. It is never overly shy nor aggressive...At home it is an excellent watchdog, sounding a warning bark to announce the arrival of any stranger. It is protective of its home and family, although it does not threaten to bite or attack people. The American Eskimo Dog learns new tasks quickly and is eager to please.

This is a good summary of my li'l baby. A neat and informative history is here: http://www.decacs.com/caea/eskiehistory.htm

She looks very similar to the middle drawing here:

, like a tiny white wolf.

If anyone is interested, and wants more info, let me know.

The prospect of possible death does not faze me, but getting rid of my little baby...:(

I have a few "possibles" here at work, but if you're looking for a sweet dog that will let you know if someone's around, I've got her.

John,

I empathize with you. I too will have to find a new home for my dog Buddy in the very near future. I rescued him from the pound about six months ago and we've bonded pretty well. Unfortunately, I cannot stay at the house I was living in and it is impossible to find a new place in this town that'll accept dogs.

Good luck in your search for a new home...

Alan

Alan,

Good luck on finding a good home for Buddy. I've had Stardust since she was just a little ball of fluff. I've learned a lot from her, and I'll always be thankful.

Spec, do you have any family or friends who would dogsit for you while you're gone? I hate to see this friendship end.

Not for two years. :(

I have a couple "worst case" friends who will take her if no-one else will, but it'd be nice to find someone who is looking for a good medium-small dog...She loves to play ball, she loves to chase squirrels (never caught one!), and if she hasn't seen you in a while, she's been known to dance around squealing in something resembling a doggy ecstatic fit. Of course, she's house broken and knows basic commands. Good luck on "attack", though. She'll bark fiercely. :)

I'd take her myself if they didn't have a ban on dogs in this senior park. Sounds like a real cutie.

I would love to have another dog, but in my heart I know it wouldn't be fair to the dog nor to Barb who has enough on her
hands.:( :( :( :(
I will be praying that Stardust finds a good home and soon!!!!

John -

Take a look at this -

I'm not familiar with Eskies, but the people who operate these services are conscientous and on the up and up. If they weren't, the serious breeders would have had them at the end of a rope long ago. We just got our Cairn via this route.

Awww... I wish I hadn't read this. I would take her in an instant for you if I didn't know that my parents would actually kill me for it. (I have a serious soft-spot in my heart for any animal, and my parents don't.)

John,

I will e-mail a photo of stardust to my girlfriend.. she isn't totally anti-dog... she just doesn't like big ones (thus, Buddy is out of luck there). Sheila and her kids do want to get a dog, and Stardust is too cute not to pass the info on :)

And thank you for your concern about Buddy. I am still hoping something will happen to allow me to keep him.

Alan

Bill,

I appreciate the offer. Looks like one of the forum members on The Firing Line will take her. :)
