GA- need a dog?

Just an idea for folks in this situation. Ask around (SPCA, etc) about a low cost spay and neuter clinic in your area. If there is one, ALL the animal rescuers are well known there. My wife and I get calls from people all the time who got our number from the local clinic (Animal Trustees of Austin). It may take a few calls, but one can probably help with healthy animals. And, as always, (shameless plug), if you live in central Texas and want a dog or cat, or, at the moment, rat, mouse, or bunny, drop me a line at taowarrior@iwon.com. Our rescue has lots of great animals!

Great. The dog is going to have to readjust to new owner but that's certainly better than the dead end journey to the pound -- emphasis on dead.

I'm really happy to hear this.

Where's Alan? How is your dog situation going?

Alan is moving this week, and depending on hook-up arrangements may be off the web for a while. Buddy's fate is still unknown, but the pound is an unlikely destination as prospects are good.

It breaks my heart to see any animal have to go to the pound for execution. We'll find a home for Buddy one way or the other.

...for Buddy actually includes the pound. If that trip ever becomes necessary, Al will take him to the pound in Belle Fourche, run by a vet, and Al has been doing their "Pet of the Week" pics for the local papers for several years now (gratis, of course). I doubt if Buddy will see his "end of the trail" there without exhausting every possibility, as well as notification to Al when things get rough. In the meantime, he is a young Labrador-English Sheepdog 50/50 mix, described as as "mellowed out clown". He has had obedience training and works well on a leash, until the clown takes over, and he takes the leash in his mouth and wants to lead.

Here is a photo of Buddy taken last summer. Wal's description is pretty good, except he really hasn't been through obedience school. Buddy is prone to lip off when told to do something, but will usually obey after a couple of comments :).

His favorite two things is to curl up on the couch next to you and put his head in your lap, or lay on the floor and chew bones. Buddy appears to be suffering from some arthritis in his hips, but it hasn't slowed him down yet. I've been giving him glucosimine pills, which seem to help out. He is neutered too.

Overall, he is a great dog, and will be even better once in a stable home environment. I just wish I could find a place to live that would let me keep him. Damn college towns are really picky (for good reason I guess...) and there aren't any prospects in a 15 mile radius... I know, I've been looking for the last three months.

This could be my last post for a while. I'll have a new internet hookup on the 7th if everything goes as planned. Til then :).

Yes. Stardust definitely has a home.

Damn it, I'm crying already. I'm happy for her, though.

Alan, Buddy is a beautiful dog. I hope he finds a great home.

Spec,

Great news! I know what you mean... I'm not looking forward to letting Buddy go. He has already been through at least two other owners... he's quickly becoming a foster dog :( .

I know that Stardust will have a great home too. It is hard letting go sometimes.

Alan

btt...

Buddy still needs a home :( . He'd make a great outdoor/indoor pooch. Plus, he'll keep your feet warm at night too!

Alan

Keep looking. I just got back from dropping Stardust off with her new family (they live in Savannah).

Really, really nice people. I have been blessed yet again.

Al, run an ad in the Rapid City paper. I'll pay the freight for Buddy if you can't deliver him in person -- which I'd recommend so you can get a look at the new owners. Also will pay for ad.

Spec, I'm delighted for both you and Stardust. She'll adjust but you can bet your bottom dollar if she sees you 10 years from now she's going to remember you.

What a good deal!!!:) The best of luck to you Spectre in all you do! Will you be able to bring your favorite Khukuri with you on your journey?

Chris,

Not for Basic, but possibly when assigned. It'll depend on the unit, and the Sgt. I'd sure love to have my WW II or even my GRS with me.
